Buddy of mine posted this on fb. Thought you all would find it interesting. Add it to the reasons I hand split lol Chopping Wood a Manlier Feel than Sports | TIME.com
I enjoy splitting by hand. I split all of the wood in this picture (two rows deep) by hand. Does that make me a stud muffin?
I always save some wood to split by hand. I'll throw a few pieces aside when I'm running the splitter. Gives me something to do (i get out of work at 1pm) and is good exercise. The gf gets turned on watching too. No joke.
I hand split everything too, I'm neither stud nor muffin, just enjoy the work. I've never felt bad after a wood splitting session.
Splitting is the best form of exercise, if you ask me. And I have never felt bad after a wood splitting session, either. It is a very good stress reliever. But don't sell yourself short--I'm sure you're quite the stud muffin, too. Anyone who splits by hand qualifies as a stud muffin. It's just a simple fact.
I will hand split some wood just for the fun of it, ash, maple, poplar, etc. But when it comes to things like elm or pin oak, well..... there's a reason I bought a 20T splitter . In fact I'll be firing it up today.
I was a little worried when I read the headline since I "retired" my Fiskars 2 years ago in favor of a hydraulic splitter!! But luckily it mentioned at the end that weight lifting will also increase testosterone. Whew! I was concerned I'd turn into Caitlyn Jenner!!
i am pretty sure there is more to the "caitlyn" issue than testosterone. did you ever listen to the drama on the tv show? it turned an male olympic star into a shim, it can't be good for anyone. shoot, the original husband died to get away from it and a son in law nearly killed himself in a whorehouse. mama says those women are the devil!lol
I'm honestly only aware of who he is because my wife buys those stupid magazines in the grocery store checkout lane. US or People or something, I forget the name of it. I really don't follow pop culture.
Uhh ohh, that might be a problem for me then since I hand split most of the time! Does that mean I'll grow a pair? I hand split because I enjoy the exercise. It has kept me young while others my age are wrinkly and saggy. But then they are the girly girl type that couldn't do anything strenuous if their lives depended on it. They are the type that need help changing a light bulb even if it's within reach in fear of breaking a nail. Did you know 'sweat' has anti-aging properties too?
Testosterone,, proof positive is every bar room in a town hosting logging shows . Don't ask me how I know.
I hand split all of my own wood, and most of my BIL's this year too after his hydro splitter broke down. I lost over 50lbs in the past 3 years, though last year I gained half of that back after I started my lumber making hobby. The pieces I have to load up, and the chainsaws required to cut them, have gotten bigger and heavier and so I did too. I've tried other fitness activities in my life but none of them have ever been as effective as my wood hoarding has been. I'd rather get my workouts outside, doing something productive, rather than running in place in a sweaty gym.
I cut, hand split and stack all my wood. Then I load it on other peoples vehicles when I give it away.
"And despite testosterone being commonly associated with males (who have a much higher quantity of the hormone), women aren’t left out either. Females receive the same benefits from testosterone spikes, and Trumble believes he would have sees the same boosts in women if they had been included in his test."
All the wood in my avatar is courtesy of a Fiskars. Just don't overdo it! Get yourself 3 years ahead and it's not so hard to keep up.
I know women also produce testosterone but in significantly lessor amounts. With my being 64, my production of most everything has bottomed out so I really doubt if I'd even feel a spike. But that's okay I will continue cutting, splitting, and stacking until the end of time or my demise, whichever comes first! :stacke:
