I havent see that idea before but like it. Does it fall off? I would think it would get hung up on branches and the like.
Sean It works great for bucking. It has never fallen off accidentally yet. When you need it off for cutting off stumps, it comes off quickly. Yeah, it could get in the way of debranching, but pop the whip off for that and you're all good. When there a little snow on the logs, the whip pretty much naturally puts a mark where the next cut needs to be made.
The scrench even fits over the male end of the air fitting. The only issue I have with it is that I have to take the piece off of the saw before it goes in the case. That's a small issue to have to deal with.
Some how conned my father into helping stack hickory and move some maple rounds. Hoping to split and stack the maple by tuesday, then its on to the poplar!
By having it out towards the end of the bar lets you cut your rounds without having to take it off the bar, correct?
It would be no different than how I have mine set up at the front of the bar. Actually, at the end of the bar, it would be in the way for nearly all limbing, versus at the bar mount. You'd still have to take it off for limbing and vertical cuts.
I found it's better to have it farther back on the bar about the middle ,after it's all limbed, pop it on, just mark the log from end to end ,, pop it off and buck the log . That's what's nice about the magnet , put it anywhere you want on the bar, and 2 seconds on or off .
Not to be contrary but if your walking the log twice wouldnt walking with the not heavy mingo be easier?
I don't walk the log twice, start at 1 end, mark the log when I get to the other end of the log pop off the whip, and buck to the other end. And the measuring whip cost me $3 for the magnet, it's lightweight, not bulky to pack, and I don't have to buy any paint. There is always more than one way to do it, this works great for me

Yeah, I only walk down the tree once as well with my setup. You have to love tools that make our lives easier.
