Coyotes have been after my chickens. Three times (that I know of) in the last three weeks, in broad daylight, in the yard as close as 40 yds from my front door. Heard the chickens raising cane this morning, grabbed my .22 pistol (closest) and looked out the door, 100 yrds away on a wooded hillside a coyote is after the flock, fire several shots toward him to scare him off, he continues to chase them like he doesn't even hear me, so actually start aiming (not much sense in that at a running target at 100 yrds, through the trees, with a .22 pistol), I think I hear a yelp but he continues, outta rounds, duck back in the door and grab the .223, he is leaving now but he pauses, bad mistake, V-Max to the head. When I collected him, I saw that I had hit him in the back leg with the .22, broke it bad. Can't believe he didn't run off immediately. Determined I guess. Very healthy looking with a nice pelt.
Looks like his cousin "Wile E. Coyote" after a poor decision to use some Acme product. Only bloodier.

Yep. I expected to see a chicken massacre in the coop/run area. I've only seen one yote in the pasture. It was a good 100yds away. Too far for the .22 and being on the top of a hill I couldn't risk using the Mauser. Guess it was his lucky day.
That's the look of "What the heck was I thinking?" Hindsight is 20/20, or 22/223 in this case. Nice shot.
