I was searching through an investment company that owned the preceding company (Dixie Pellets) that manufactured pellets in Selma AL.

They make a "black pellet" that apparently resists water, and export them to Europe.

I don't burn pellets - I work for my woodheat:D, so just curious if anyone has tried them and if Alabama wood refuse makes good pellets?

This sounds like the same kind of product that a company called Thermogen Industries was supposed to make in Maine. Torrified Wood I think they called it. They never built the plant, filed bankruptcy and basically milked the State of Maine out of millions of dollars that were given in loans. It's like coke, the coal byproduct, not the stuff you snort or drink, except it's made from wood.

Coke is a petroleum byproduct, but yes burned the same as coal in boilers.
There were bigger boondoggles to be had in the synfuels industries early-mid 2000's with mixing anything form No2-No6 fuel oil with coke to make "fuel pellets"

The process for these wood/biomass pellets is torrefaction

Evidently there are 2 ways to make coke. I was referring to the coke derived from coal.

    • Coke (fuel), a solid carbonaceous residue derived from destructive distillation of coal
    • Petroleum coke, a solid, carbon-rich residue derived from distillation of crude oil
