How much would you guys expect to pay for a dolmar PS 510. That has never been feuled. A guy I know has one he said is for sale but has not yet said price. I am not familiar with this brand. Heard good things about them but never used them.
I would let him put a price on it, if he bought it new and isn't in a hurry to sell it, chances are he's going to want full retail for it. I bought a never fueled MS261C for $300 still in the box, I've over paid and underpaid for never fueled saws. Like Fuzz said, it's worth what you are willing to pay, those are excellent firewood saws. I have a 510 and 5100 both.
This is a great approach. That way you know what price he will be happy with. If its close to a price you will be happy with, you can come to an agreement that is fair for you both.
If the seller doesn't offer up a price, then in my opinion that means offer what you would like to pay . . . which I would assume is less than what you're willing to pay...
Exactly. However, sometimes the seller thinks it's worth a lot more than what it is really worth, or just of they want a lot more than you're willing to spend it can get weird. I've never run a dolly, but I want to. I've only heard really good things about them.
There is a difference between want and need, and similarly there is a difference between "I want" and "I need" prices. I am willing to pay for something I need but if I don't need it and only just want it, I will be looking for a bargain. Then there is the one that pizzez off the wife and that is the, " I don't really want or need it, but that is just to good of a deal to pass up" price Edit: I have my eye on a used 510 Dolly up here that I don't need and only slightly want (because of the love I hear for these saw here) so it will have to be a great deal before I will bite.
For a fairly objective reference, four new PS-510's show up in a search of completed eBay listings. The average selling price was $350, which means the average proceeds the sellers got for them after paying the eBay and PayPal fees is about $305. That's probably on the high end of the range of what your guy could hope to get for it if advertised on Craigslist.
I am gonna offer $200 or possible trade 8500lb which never used. Both retailed close to same price new. I don't need it so may go up to $250 .
If it is something I need, I buy it the first fair price I can find. If it is something I want, I'll get it cheap or I won't get it. If he has never fueled it, I'd offer him a $100. Regardless of what it's worth. There are two sides to every transaction. It's maximum value to you is what you are willing to pay. However, the value he is willing to take might just be a lot less than the maximum offer you are willing to pay. Why not try to approach the deal where both get the best deal? If he's never fueled it and looking to sell it, he doesn't need it. So, there is no harm in trying to buy it cheaper if possible. If the guy told me $150 was what he wanted, I'd say "sold". Because he is trying to give me a great deal. I don't fret negotiations with people who are doing that. If the guy said a value close to what it is worth, I'd try him on the extreme low side to test his intent. Then see if we can meet somewhere where both are happy. If it doesn't work, I can live with that. And, it sometimes doesn't work. God Bless
Thanks for all the advice everyone has given me. I got the saw home. Very nice never feuled just like the guy said. I got the power head and the tool bag with the 3 standard tools. We talked about cash but he did not seem interested but was interested in a log splitter I have that needs some engine work. I have 2 splitters. So I might trade the saw and $200 for the one that needs work.
