Compression is at 170 and did the first stage of the muffler mod. Figured I'd start small and open it up more if I think it needs it. Pretty sure I'll open it up more but until I can really run it I didn't want to overdo it.

A little more. Might drill a few holes through the outer 90 degree baffle. She'll breathe better now.

Yea if you don't open the outer baffle up it now becomes the bottle neck.

20" Stihl bar and an RS chain on the way from one of our fine members here. Was going to go with either a forester or oregon bar but the offer came up and the price was right. Thanks M. Much appreciated.

You may be aware of this, but in a lot of cases the aluminum transfer on the cylinder walls can be buffed out provided there aren't any deep scratches/grooves. I just cleaned up my 260 and it turned out great. I bought a sanding drum from Harbor Freight and wrapped a green Scotch Brite pad around it and ran it up and down in the bore with a drill. It won't harm the Nikasil coating, so no need to fear that you will take too much away.

This isn't the exact kit I bought, but will probably work. Measure the piston width and find a drum slightly smaller:

4 Piece Quick Change Sanding Drum Set

Just my opinion, but I would opt for OEM piston and rings from Stihl. They reduced their prices on those kits a couple of years ago, so they are more in line with after-market stuff. Maybe 30% higher in cost, but well worth it.

In addition, some people have had good results applying muriatic acid to the aluminum transfer from the piston. Dab a little on the affected area with a q-tip and let it sit for a little while. For best results, heat the cylinder up a little in your oven or sitting on the wood stove a few minutes.

I have to caution you though, the acid has been known to damage the Nikasil on the cylinder walls if left on too long. Personally I would only use acid if the transfer is really bad and you were planning on scrapping the cylinder anyway.

Using the sanding drum can be a lengthy process when you have a heavy buildup, but there is no chance of damaging the Nikasil lining. And you can always start with a fine grade of emery cloth first, then follow it up with the scotch brite afterwards.

It runs good enough that I'm not going to do anything to it until I get to cut with it for a while but thanks for the tips.

pantelis, been working extra shifts at the resort to cover a few guys that are out hurt and sick but hope to get back to cutting and skidding early next week. I'm expecting the bar to be here in the next few days so I'll get a chance to try out the 260 then too.

Beautiful saw and great job on your part! My 260 is one of my favorites. It's light enough to limb, but has enough power to cut some pretty decent rounds in you don't feel like hauling out a larger saw.

Cut with the MS 260 for a while today and it did fine. Ended up using the MS 250 most of the time though. Just a little lighter and most of the work today was limbing. Skid and stacked a bunch of logs and brush and hope to get back out tomorrow for a few more hours of work. Sorry, no pics today. Was planning on it but the owner came out and chewed my ear off for a while and I got cold from standing around.

Just ordered these forks to help with the loading. They should be here by next Monday so if the weather is decent I might be able to get a trailer load of logs home.

That's awesome. I didn't realize there were clamp on pallet forks for the MS 260. I knew I loved my saw, but if I can buy something aftermarket that will allow my saw to load wood as well, I will be one happy man. I am going to order a set tonight!

Wow there was a lot of typos there.

Should of said "piling brush" and should have said "done in a day". The percent sign should not of been there.
