Can anyone recommend a decent steamer? We have a 1 qt cast chicken at the moment but the wife wants a bigger one that's coated with enamel or porcelain or whatever. Are trivets necessary? Tia

I have one we don't use, our stove is in the basement and the humidity doesnt seem to travel like the heat. I'll take a few pictures. It's for sale if your interested to make an offer. It is pretty big.

Humidifiers on the stove never seemed to put enough humidity for me. I will use a pot in the stove combined with a real humidifier.

OhioStihl is right. When I ran a humidifier in my gas heated home I was putting about 5 gallons of water into it each day just to maintain decent humidity in the house. No way can one of those stove top decorations boil off that much water. I like the look of them but they are not really humidifiers. These days I don't need a humidifier but go through almost that much water each day topping up my fish tanks.

I got an aluminum catch pan out of the bottom of a scrap refrigerator this summer. Holds about 3 gallons . On the little englander it will steam off that much in 24 hours.
It ain't purdy but works well. Had an old porcelain pan up there before this and never worked as well . I think the aluminum is the kicker.

At the cottage, I use porcelain also. Don't have a water heater there so it serves a double purpose.

I have a cast iron porcelain tea kettle and two pans of water on the stove, that keeps the humidity decent but when he gets real cold and I burn a lot, then I have to turn on the humidifier also that holds 4 gallons.
Those little steamer deals are not going to do much at all
