That's them there civilians trying to figger it out! Woodwidow , its a good thing you didn't wait up, no?
Ok, first results for 24 hours. Even though I didn't take a pic of the pan prior to, let me say this pan was "nasty"! My charger only goes to 10 amps and I've kept in on the low setting of 2 amps, It's working real well. I've watched and read about higher amperage and the process will go faster, I'm not in that much of a hurry so I'm good with it. I did put another electrode in the water and used a jumper wire to equal the field so it's pulling crud off the pan in both ways. Take a look at the water, it's nasty so it's doing the job! Good results, I've put it back in till the morning and see what it looks like then but as of now, the crud is flaking off!
Without reading 33 pages, what's the best way to remove terrible rust on cast iron before doing a re season? I've got quite a few I've bought at yard sales.
Go back to last 20 posts. Also go to www.castironcollector.com Super information there. What I'm doing above will remove every bit of rust on your pan. When you go there, go to cleaning, stripping with electrolysis
My cast iron pans don't rust, but now I wish they did so I could justify buying one of whatever that thing is, although I am pretty sure I would need a bigger more powerful model.
So I have been following this post and now I have a question. We have a 1/4" thick aluminum griddle that someone made for us. Over the years, it has built up a black layer all around the edge. yesterday as I was making pancakes, I started scraping the hot layer with the spatula. What a mess. Anyway, if I use oven cleaner and really get the black crud off, would I be able to season it again like you have been doing to the cast iron pans?
