Saucy ripped a dew claw from a hookup with the ottoman while playing with Maple. His claw ripped down to the quick, we called the emergency vet to confirm what I quickly researched online, and they had 10 other emergency patients anyway- would have been an hour or two wait! I ended up holding Saucy while Dawn carefully clipped the dangling part of the nail. We stopped what little blood their was with flour. Everything got cleaned again and wrapped with a bandage. Saucy is now resting sporting a ring of shame. Maple is clearly worried because she dropped a steamer on the floor, she's very emotional.

Maple isnt leaving his side now, and he just wants to rest it seems. He's not really in the mood for it. Might hit the sack early so they both lay down.

Did you have something on hand to give her for pain? Poor Saucy, that has to hurt like heck.

Unfortunately no. He cried at first, but once we wrapped it, he layed down. Been sleeping since. A good reminder to get some supplies from the vet.

Look on the web. There is some discussion about aspirin. I've given it to mine with good effect. But it is not without potential complication. Best to run it by the vet. Most some OTC pain med are lethal, esp to cats.

OWWW! that must have hurt. Keeping it wrapped up and Saucy immobile for a while might take some effort. For going outside, you might want to look at plastic wrapping it so it doesn't get wet.

Hope Saucy bounces back - they usually seem to bear this type of thing better than the owners do.

Apparently Maple clearly thinks she's human and is bearing it more like the owners

We could probably get decent vet jobs since we have experience now. :)
