Im going to start selling wood by the IBC tote or caged water tank 275 gallon and/or 330 gallon. 275G = 37 Cubic Feet 330G = 45 Cubic Feet Based on 128 cubic feet per stacked cord and 180 cubic feet not stacked my idea/theory for price is.. 275 stacked... 128/37=3.45 per cord at $180/3.45=$52 so round that up to $50 make life easy.... loose.... 180/37=4.86 per cord at $160/4.86=$33 so round that up to $40... 330 Stacked... 128/45=2.84 per cord at $180/2.84=$63 so round that up to $65... loose...180/45=4 per cord at $160/4= $45 so round that up to $50... What do you guys think?
Look around your area for competition. What is the quality, volume and price they set, then how competitive do you want to be. If no competition, is there a market? Presentation is another thing. Place down the road has his wood neatly stacked and the price boldly displayed. Seems to sell all he can get his hands on. Everything he has now is sold as green wood. I have never seen wood for sale that is more than a year old. Out behind me, there is another place that processes firewood. He sells it just by the cord. Always busy. Only see a lot of wood during the summer. Then it is all gone even though the place runs nearly every day. I thought with oil down so far this year, that there would be a surplus, but so far, it isn't showed by any accumulation laying around.
I agree there is a few people around... $50 seems to be the average but they are 275 gallon loose. Not sure how much they move but my mom's house has awesome road frontage in a rural area where I know wood moves.
Are you giving the customer the tote too? Or is that just how you are measuring the wood to show them what they are getting? The totes themselves generally sell for $20-40 IINM.
Its all about where you are. Around me, sub-urban with farmland all around and very litle wooded area. I can sell an 1/8th cord of mixed white/red oak with a bit of maple and elm for $40 all day long. Make sure you try to use craigslist for small quantities. Not everyone has room for mountains of wood at their house.
"Seasoned" hardwood around here goes for anywhere from $260 to $375 and most everyone seems to sell in face cords so 85 to 125 seems to be what I've seen.... As for the seasoned or hardwood part who knows what you might end up with
Most of the stuff I sell green.... anything ugly I keep since people like to buy 'pretty' wood... knotted wood is more dense due to fiber structure so I belive I get slightly longer burn times.
Those are some good prices I think the highest I've seen this year was $200 in my area. I'd say 50% of the sellers here cut whatever and it could be green... still dripping and they'd say "seasoned mixed hardwood"
No full cord we do not do many 'face cord' around here.... people always say 1/4 1/2 3/4 of a cord.... fully cord and so on.
yes i did WW. not sure if it will work for me as it's a big weekend at my farm market with the holiday. thanks for the welcome. i'm near east berlin.
We sell it for $50/ton. Oak, hickory, and locust. Use a Dyna firewood processor. We've sold about 40 tons since 1/1/2016. It sounds like we're selling it too cheap. God Bless men
If its not seasoned then your only a little low for price. If you get far enough ahead you can get far higher from educated customers. The rest will buy the green stuff and be hapy.
