I had the "delux" maintenance package in a lease years ago, which included rental cars for "free" while under maintenance or repairs. The taxes, windshield coverage fee and other stuff was $20 alone even thought the rental was paid for. And that does not account for my time waiting for the shuttle to the rental place, then waiting there for a car. Yep, after a couple attempts at the rental cars I ended up jumping into the old Blazer instead of the cost, time and hassel to rent a tiny car. I like your plan better.

It would be difficult, but "possible" to come close for a sub-compact rental, if you had some excellent coupons / discount codes for one of the major rental companies. (Enterprise, Avis, etc.)

The auto body shop may also rent out 'loaners', ones around here locally do. ( Just make sure to pay w/ a CC that covers LDW, or Loss Damage Waiver ), in case of a mishap, in the rental vehicle. Also check w/ the Ins. agent, they may also cover LDW on the rental, if you vehicle is being repaired.

Typically, you rent the vehicle, pay the bill, then submit to the Ins. carrier for reimbursement. At least around here. But it may be different in your area, another question for the Ins. agent.

    * If you have enough vehicles to cover transportation, that sounds easier: but if you need a rental, hope the info above helps.

The damage waiver is an extra charge by the rental company (average around 15/day). Pretty doubtful your carrier will go for that because your insurance coverage will transfer to the rental but you would have a deductible if you get in an accident but that is no different than if you were driving your own vehicle.
Your carrier may have special rates worked out with one of the rental companies we work with Enterprise and a subcompact if I remember goes for 20.95 + tax per day.

And there is a Enterprise right next to the body shop I am using. depending how long it well take to fix my RAV will dictate if I want a rental or not

That's an excellent point and another question for the Ins. agent - leverage their negotiated rate w/ Enterprise for the rental, if at all possible.

So I forgot to give you guys an update on this...

Got my car out of the shop last Monday. Total cost was just over $8K in repairs plus a 3 week rental car charge at $21.50 a day + tax and whatever else they tack on ( i did not actually see the rental bill)

It all got covered under my uninsured motorist coverage on my policy and i paid a $100 deductible:D

I am now researching filing a diminished value claim on my car , anyone here ever do that??

I saw something on TV here a while back I recall Georgia was the first state to implement a law that allows it. Great if you can do it. Good luck once more.

Yes, I can file a diminished value claim here as well. I just got to figure out what all I need. ins companies arnt very help full with these

The shop I used has some good internet reviews, They used all OEM parts from Toyota, they had to outsource the suspension to another shop though, but they also used OEM Toyota part ( Knuckle) as well.
My Ins company ( Allstate) mandates only new or used OEM parts and if used they must come from a vehicle of same year or newer, but all mine were new. Also I have the "for as long as you own your car" guarantee that came with the repair via Allstate that the repairs meets auto repair industry standards

yes, basically the car fax on your vehicle will now show serious accident.. This will reduce the resale value of your vehicle buy x. Also make it harder to sell. Sorry for more bad news..

hence the reason I am going to file a diminished value claim, but I doubt I well sell this car anytime soon anyway. I keep cars for along time

Well done. Now you can have peace of mind. These things can get ugly but you obviously know how to deal with it as best as possible. Hopefully it will soon all be forgotten and on with our lives.

Can't help you with the Dim. value thing, only comment on each state I believe has different stipulations. Also since this was covered by your policy it may have exclusions that make it not possible. If the car was fixed with all new parts OE parts and done to industry standards is there a loss of value ? Just posing question, opinions will differ.....Carfax in my opinion is just a tool that dealers use to lessen the trade in value but then still try to get full retail on the lot....again my opinion. At any rate you are basically pursuing your own ins. co. for dim. value at this point.

I believe there is, So i just bought this car a month prior to the accident, while I was looking for cars I passed on any that had a accident report on them and even noticed they were priced a bit lower because of the accident. not alot lower but some

I have no idea how the whole dim value thing is going to pan out

Yes, If other person had Ins I could claim it against theirs, but seeing they were uninsured I am authorized to file a claim with mine. i am sure my rates are going up either way whether i file a diminished value claim or not

Here is the latest update on this thread. I filed the diminished value claim on my vehicle for $3600 a few weeks ago. after some haggling back and forth I settled on $3200. Ins co direct deposited it into my bank today:D

You handled this very well. I recall a show from last year up here and they pointed to Georgia as the State that made diminished value mandatory. I guess their example is spreading to other states. Allstate appears to be a class act. Best outcome possible when the unthinkable comes to our door knocking.
