got both stoves cranked up and burning a lot of wood but it was -12 last night and it's only 3 degrees right now! Stoves are doing their job!
We've had both of ours cranking too.....I'm letting them die down so I can clean them both out here this afternoon. House is currently a balmy 82°!!
Real cold here too - little payback for a mild early winter. Wish I had two stoves in the house - finally had to let the oil kick on to keep the house reasonable and make sure the upstairs pipes don't freeze. Cheers!
Lately I've been thinking about putting a pot belly stove like that in the screen porch at the cottage.....
Betcha that railroad pot-belly is showing a radiant personality. 'Round here, firing the stove a bit higher than before, with the likes of hickory, apple, and black locust. Really smells nice downwind, with a small load of shagbark, apple, black cherry, on occasion. Getting the neighbors salivating. Me too. Letting the indoor temps "droop" to reduce the shock on going out/coming in. This too shall pass. Tee shirts next week?
Don't have 2 stoves here nor a furnace but we've burned a lot of wood these last few days. Burning ash in daytime and oak at night.
i am pleased to not need my oil burner because of the performance of my insert. stay warm with wood my friends.
Beautiful potbelly stove there crodog. We have an old one that the FIL restored for us, it's unfortunately just a decoration sitting in our dining room and not earning it's keep warming the house.
Saw one of them updated ones at the TSC yesterday- pretty cool looking. Marked down to $350 or so.....
So the stove is a Station Agent #24, my limited research shows its from the late 1800's. It puts out a ton of heat but it's located in the first floor of my 2 story foyer so most of the heat goes up to the bed rooms. The insert is a Jotul Rockland 550 that runs about 95% of the time. Last night it was 82 upstairs and 70 downstairs. Not great for sleeping. House is a mid 80's colonial with single pane windows with storms, not particularly good. On my wish list to replace but with 22 Windows to replace I need to burn a bunch of wood and save my oil money!
I absolutely love that Station Agent stove. I enjoy all things old with character. Can you imagine the stories that stove could tell from over the years, probably fill a book. Congratulations to you for owning it, and using it. Crodog that picture of it should definitely be your avatar, go for it.
