Hey fellows I have a 268xp special what ya'll think about theses and what does the special mean?I got it from a friend, Has not been used much,I have to pull it a lot more times to get it to crank than my stihl 360,are they harder to start or think mabe it needs a carb kit? once it starts it no problem to start
I would look at the fuel line and filter and the carb pump diaphragm since it sounds like it just has a hard time moving fuel. I've never had one but the 268 is supposed to be a great saw.
"Special" in this case most likely means it has a closed port cylinder rather than the open port........which is a good thing!.........
I have al ready replaced fuel line ,I have a new kit for carb but haven't put it in yet Thanks Honeyfuzz for info, when did they stop making these?
I put a 268 closed port mahle cylinder with 266 pop up piston on this old model 61, doesn't look like much, but sure runs awesome!!.........
I think I remember reading that the 268's were all open port and the 268xp's were all closed port - but it was a while ago! Cheers!
Hey no problem ! I have no idea how long the special was made...but I can try and find out. I know they were labeled 268....268xp....and 268xp special... My guess....is the 268xp special was a short run....but that's just a guess !
If I remember right, from what Nikko has stated in the past, these 268's and the 365's need to be physically checked for open or closed port regardless of how they were labeled.......
a buddy and I put in the new carb kit and now it starts on 3-4 pulls cold, this saw has good power! Thanks
Tough to beat an old 200 series husqvarna chainsaw, lots of them still goen strong after many years of cutting wood.
It is likely a closed port design with that special name. If I'm remembering correctly, the 365 special was while the 365's were not. Eitherway, those 268's will flat out run. Great saws. Awesome power versus weight. God Bless
