It makes me very happy that Sandy is content. For her, that is such a blessing and ALL she needs. Makes me sad at the same time, but thank God for you Stinny. She will live the rest of her life in what she thinks of as HEAVEN.

Well, thanks for your kind thoughts tfdchief and Canadian border VT ... but we're really not doing anything big here. Thankfully, many rescue pets are adopted all the time. This rescue idea is only new to us, but not those many other folks who have done this same thing. We'd never even thought about adopting an older dog before. We were going to find another American Eskie puppy to keep Giz company, and my honey kinda switched gears... and we went for a Sunday drive. Next thing we know, we brought home Sandy...  ... we're all learning as we go... ;) ... and it's a lot of fun... :D

you might want to consider toys with treats in them. She has to work them to get at the treats. Lots of fun for her and you. there is one that is like a ball they have to roll around to have the treat fall out.

If you want her to chew of something, consider Bully sticks, another treat is jerky. Be very careful where these are from. Only US made with a good reputation. You can look them up on the internet to find the details. The Bully stick is disgusting if you think about it, but in the dog world, it is heavenly.

Now... we're gonna get Giz looked at today at the vets. She hasn't been keeping much down for 3-4 days. We're assuming Sandy's presence now is causing Giz to wolf down her food waay too fast. We know she has a sensitive gut anyway... once she's puked in the past, it's not unusual for her to keep doing it for a day or two. The vet just wants to be sure she doesn't have something else going on. Other than that Giz seems hungry, but fine.

Maybe a trial of feeding them in separate places?

They haven't eaten together anyway, and their bowls are 10' apart. Plus, we've already reduced the portions... was about a cup plus, once a day, to now 1/4 cup 3-4 times over the day. Thought we had it taken care of with the smaller amounts. Nope. Giz is starting to get irritated more around Sandy, so we're gonna have the vet take a look. Will see how Sandy does in her crate while we're gone too. So far, she's been fine...

Poor Giz! First she has to put up with a noob.
Then she has to give up some space for her.
Now, her food portions get cut back! No wonder she's in a bad way! Probably thinking about Sandy..."bee youtch"

Giz is fine. Xray showed no blockage. Shot calmed her stomach, with pills for next 2 days... and she's just had some food. She's much more relaxed tonight. Vet thinks it was the new dog stressin' Giz out. Hey, maybe she could take yoga classes... ;) Just need more time to get used to each other.

Good that she is OK, but then again, she isn't all ok because she is very anxious, unsettled. There are some calming products, not meds, that emit some things that help calm the pet. I used one once, thought it helped some. Calming Collars & Dogs | Are Calming Collars Good for Dogs? | Anxiety in Dogs - Pet360 Pet Parenting Simplified. They only last a few weeks, but then that may be all that is needed. The good thing is you feel reasonably confident that there isn't something physically wrong. I feel sorry for poor Giz, but in reality, I think she is better off having another dog that eventually will be friends and company for her. Then watch out when they conspire and get into trouble!

We have been puppy sitting the past two weeks. This guy is a good one. He had made himself quite comfortable on the couch near the stove. He is welcome back any time.
