We have a job with 3 big pines and an oak tree tomorrow.......my holiday is now over.......

Giving the oak to my cutting partner, the pines will be processed next week and used in the maple evaporator next month (yes, not much time for seasoning), I'll be splitting it small and its for the evaporator so it'll be fine. It's either that or take it to a guy I know for his outdoor furnace, it'll get more time to season if I keep it myself!!

Sap doesn't usually start running till late March around here. I was thinking about stopping the boil early and carbonating the sap as maple soda.

Right where I want to be.
I'm expecting a call from a friend to go help tap and gather.
    Soon enough.
As always Scotty, be safe in the trees.

Cool. Be careful out there. I think I'm heading outside to split some wood here in a bit, with this nice weather.

    As always, work careful.

I always look forward to the maple syrup time. That really brings in Spring.

Well the day went without a hitch. Dropped 3 45-50' white pines and also the days unexpected surprise, the supposed "oak" tree turned out to be a 50-55' mockernut hickory tree........

Hauled out 3 trailer loads of branches and all of the pine rounds today, have to go back tomorrow afternoon and haul one more load of those gangly hickory branches and the hickory...

Yes you can! Made a big box of chips for my one buddy from the last mockernut I cut down, he just made a big batch of jerky on Saturday and it's fantastic...

I'll be saving what I get from this tree for smoking and cooking.
