Hi all. From the Great Plains, great greetings. I've been hanging out on the forums for a while and have enjoyed seeing the pictures posted and learning a good deal. Five years ago when we built a new home, a high- efficiency fireplace was high on my list. Mission accomplished. We went with Travis Industries' Fireplace Xtrordinair 36 Elite model. It keeps our 2,100 -ft. home winter toasty at consistent temp of 72-74 degrees. I go through about 1 - 1 1/2 cords of wood a season. Mostly ash, hedge, mulberry and oak, with the occasional Bradford Pear. I've been cutting and splitting since we moved in and I try to keep on the 3-year plan. Let's see, what else. Ah, the tools: Saws - Husqvarna 445 with an 18-inch bar. / 5-ton Homelite splitter (small footprint, stores well, gets the job done). Fiskars X27 and X11 (great for hacking apart stringy stuff, like Elm, and stripping bark). For big rounds I've got a Stihl maul and wedges to get through the hard stuff. Another tool I use frequently is the Smart Holder sawbuck that Bailey's sells. Smart-Holder Firewood Holder | Firewood Cutting Tools | Firewood Products | www.baileysonline.com. As my handle infers I'm a career old newspaper guy, though several years ago I switched careers to communications director for a locally-based retail/wholesale, manufacturing company. Aside from wood gathering, I enjoy my Big Green Egg/smoker and spending time outdoors. I'll wrap this up with some pictures! :D[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Welcome on behalf of the PA woodcutters on this forum! Snowing pretty hard here at present, but fire is going. Great folks on this forum and you can get almost any question answered. Many good saws out there including Stihl, but like you I run all Huski gear

Welcome, neighbor... nice, clean stack arrangement on concrete pad... from the looks of your terrain, you must be south of me and a little west?
    Love the fireplace!

    Welcome aboard!

And by the looks of your first post, you're going to be trouble, aren't you??? There is really nothing we can tell you like the normal "we like pics" or "what kind of saw do you have?" and "Where are you located?" "what'cha burning?"

    You get it......:p
