A couple picks I found today. I cleaned a word up on the second pic. Nice way to set a good mood to start my day.

So I have a new pet in the house. Hes been here since probably NOV-15 or so, since I brought in my ficus tree.

I call him Sluggo, although someone said he looks more like a Cornelious Sluggensbaum.

Regardless, he is here to stay, or at least until march or so.

He only comes out to say hi maybe every other week or so.

I suspect if the boys saw him they would lap him right up. But then his recent descendant (also named Sluggo) lived to be about 4 inches long with a 3/4 inch girth. I suspect he died of natural causes, but then again...

Very different. How do you keep him from wandering all over the house and getting squashed accidentally?

2 weeks ago today... we sprung Sandy outa the pokey. She's doing just fine now and has adjusted to "going" out in the cold and wind and snow. She's become my shadow... ;)... She hasn't quite gotten OK with Giz invading her space yet though. She bit Giz yesterday, when she was running by (not bad) but has been around her since with no probs. I can only imagine how many times Sandy has had to defend her space from bigger dogs while at the hoarder puppy mill for 10 years. Giz is used to having the run of the place here, but hasn't shown any aggression to Sandy at all. Not sure how many times she'll put up with getting nipped tho... :zip:... I watch the 2 of them perty close. Sandy showed a little interest today in some chew toys my honey picked up for her... first time in the 2 weeks. We went for an hour drive yesterday so she could get more used to riding. She's still perty spooked by it but was doing better toward the end...

I'm sure Giz senses the uncertainty of Sandy so lets her get away with things that she wouldn't put up with from others. They'll work it out, I have no doubt.

Now cats on the other hand - my two have spent 10 years together and still antagonize each other. The rest of the time they just can't stand each other. Still, they have worked it out for the most part - only having spats when I'm paying attention (I know because they have never made that kind of racket while I'm asleep or in a different room). Had another cat that pretended he hated the dogs. But if he thought you weren't looking, he would go rubbing against them butting them with his head and purring. Kept the dogs confused anyway :D

Guess the moral to my different dealings is - both know you are watching, which can affect how they act. Giz is being patient, but will put her foot down if needed. Try to ignore their interactions and don't intervene (even by voice) unless it looks to get messy. They can get the sense of nervousness on your part too.

Here I am lecturing, and I don't mean to - you are doing wonders for the little one

I agree bogie. My keeping an eye on them is always from a distance... just close enough if Giz decides this annoying new "chew toy" needs a little shake n toss, I could stop it. Our 2 huskies had spats once in a while too, but they were equal sizes and both were raised by us from pups. We knew their history. Unfortunately, we don't have that advantage with this little one. Sandy will figure it out... she is just showing her new found confidence around here. She's come a long way in 2 weeks. Their interactions are actually fun to watch most of the time...

I took in a rescue Chihuahua who was a two year old female dog in a home with a sadistic teenager. Took a couple of years to turn her around. Then I bought home a 6 yr. old toy poodle who was given up by a elderly lady who couldn't take her to her senior living complex. The little Chihuahua was very jealous. Then, at age 11 she had to share with another little dog. She bit the poodle one too many times and the poodle bit back. Only thing is that the chihuahua couldn't hardly bit a hot dog, with the poodle could draw blood, and she did. Well, the chihuahua learn right then to limit her aggression to just snarling. The poodle finally started to settle down. The odd part was the poodle was unpredictable around female adults but was very gentle with the grand kids.
