This is probably the best deal going now.

$400 gets you a lot of saw for not a lot of dough!! And you can strap a 36" bar to it and go rip some big logs!

395xp ugh! I'd die packing that around. Lol.

OP I got a question on the maple. Is it a soft maple or hard. I ask cause here in Missouri almost all are maples are soft maples.

Very likely to be soft maple around here as well. Not ideal in my opinion compared to the ash and oak I've been burning this year but if the price is right I could live with it or sell it.

Still haven't heard back from them so I'm thinking they're looking for a logging company to come in and bang out the job. Not going to hold my breath but I'm still hopeful they'll call even if it's just for the small amount I could handle.

I've never seen a 30"+ maple tree that wasn't at least a little hollow in the middle. Chances are pretty good that the cows worked them pretty hard at one point or another and damaged the trunk - making the chances of them being hollow even higher. Not that this is a bad thing, but be CAREFUL cutting them down. Plunge cut to see what's going on in there first.

Just got the reply. Not looking good for me but at least they were nice about it.

"I will keep you in mind. We are hoping the trees could be cut and removed when the ground freezes but before spring. There is road access to the pasture/trees but it is way too wet right now and you'd get stuck with your equipment. We are also trying to work out a deal with someone who would like the trees free and has equipment to remove the stumps as well. Do you have any access to equipment to remove stumps? Thank you for your inquiry."

Ouch, stump removal on top of everything else. I am not sure where you live, but I know a guy near Cazenovia that had his property logged and has what he thinks to be 20-30 cord of tops and firewood logs available. he wanted $60 per cord, but I backed out since access was a challenge with my 3500 and a 24 ft trailer. If you are interested, PM me and i will pass along his info. How did you plan to transport the 200 treed of wood by the way? That is a lot of transport without a large trailer or without a log grapple (unless you have them).

Wow. Grinding/pulling 150+ stumps?! That's a lot of work all on it's own! Especially 30" plus stumps.

I wonder if someone else get's the job if the owner could put you in contact with them? You could provide some free labor and take some of the wood in return?

As to saws, in my parts I've seen a lot of Makita 6421's popping up on CL recently. Home Depot must be unloading last years saws right now. I've seen prices ranging from $300 up to $450 for them.

I'm in Canastota so pretty close to Caz. I'd like to stay a little closer to home if possible to keep the costs down but I'll keep the Caz thing in mind. Thanks.

I never intended to go after all the trees. Was just hoping to get in and get what I could handle. I do have a 20' deck over trailer with a winch for logs and have access to a dump trailer as well for blocked wood.

I am in Manlius, so if something big comes up in your direction I will let you know. Might be able to work out split deal and make everyone happy...

Sounds like a plan to me. There's another similar one to this in Lakeport right now. Waiting for a call back but I'll need to figure out how to bid something like this offer.

standing timber firewood - $1 (Lakeport NY)

Many acres of standing Ash and maple for firewood. Cut your own, come look at an area and make me a reasonable offer text or call

They want to give the trees to a logger in hopes he will pull stumps. They won't find that deal!

You dont want to mess with this unless they will let you cut a few and run. You could spend all year every free min out there cutting. Unless you have something to load with your going to have to noodle every round. And you will want more than a 391.

I grew up with a 40 inch dbh yard tree as a kid. It did branch to 2 main stems about 10 feet up but it was a solid tree, not rotting or damaged. Back then I used to climb it to about 40 feet off the ground and hang on for dear life to to branches only about 2 inches in diameter.

Exactly! I don't think there is a logger around that would take that deal! Something just isn't adding up with these trees. I'm wondering if they have circumference mixed up with DBH?

Either way, this is starting to sound like a land clearing bid rather than a firewood giveaway.

Yup pretty much. And what doesn't add up to me is I don't think an excavator takes just the trees as payment for clearing the land. Unless this is an old Sugarbush full of saleable lumber I think the person who posted the ad is trying to take advantage of you Bret Hart

I'm a forester. Unless there veneer quality walnut logs or cherry bark oak that diameter in huge logs the tree is not worth the cleanup job that pulling and hauling a stump requires.

And if they had 150-200 good quality hard woods that diameter and they just wanted the trees gone and stumps to stay someone would pay them.

Might want to stay in touch with them, if they do get somebody to take the logs there should be lots of tops available to cut on!
