Nothing so blatant here. Have had a guy tell me my brakes were half worn and looked at me like I was going to ask to have them replaced - ha. Told him I still had half to go :D

Had two tell me (on different vehicles) that my brakes were down to 3/32 (or something like that), you want them replaced? Well, would they pass inspection as they are? Yes. Then no, I'll wait until I have some indication that they are no longer safe (had guys do this with tires too).

I have a '94 Ram 2500. Bought it in '97. I didn't know at the time that the tranny's in Mopar were garbage. At 110,000 it started slipping. I had it rebuilt be a large, reputable transmission co. Three months later it started grinding. Took it back and they did it again under warranty. Two years later overdrive went out. It was 68 miles over the mileage warranty and they wouldn't touch it. I drove it like that for a while. Finally decided I'd better do something about it.

I ended up having a Jasper heavy duty transmission put in. It was $3200 installed which was $1000 more than the rebuild but seven years later it's still working great.

I though Jasper had after market tranny's for any make. Doesn't really matter now but I wonder if your mechanic looked into going that route.

Before we were married, my wife took her car to the local repair shop where the owner took "real good care of her car". 2500 miles between oil changes, and he did other "recommended" work. I showed her the owners manual...oil change intervals i think was 7500 miles. She figured out quick that he took real good care of separating the customer from his/her money. now i change her oil  :rofl:  (I'm sure Smoke will have a comment here!) I have used Mobil 1 for probably 20 years or more.

I usually had the installer take the service van in for maintenance when we were so busy. Then the van kept having issues, something wasn't right. So the next time I took it in for a simple lube and oil change, it was our local Goodyear store btw. It was done quickly, I then checked every lube point and found that half of them weren't done, every one of them that would be hard to see was missed. The manager had them fix it and offered to have it done free the next time. There was no next time, I figured they were doing things to cause premature failure, and we went back to doing everything ourselves. BTW, their business closed the next year.

I had a lemon car, 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Thank God it was a lease!! BUT, I also had a 1981 Supra. Paid $2400 for it, put almost 100K miles on it with only brakes/oil changes/tires, and sold it for $2400. That was a FUN car!!!! Oh, and spark plugs and valve cover gaskets.

x100. I just dropped the Explorer off at the shop - I don't want to be driving the little Focus in any kind of chit! They say we might get some icing, but it is supposed to be around 7am - a couple hours after I get to work. Then it is supposed to warm up and turn to rain.

Hoping that I have a success story like yours. I have been happy to note it doesn't leak anything onto the garage floor, so that is a good start. Have already spent $35 on it - ordered an antennae and its base. Seems to be a common issue that they tear off - mainly by going thru a car wash and not removing the antennae. Right now I'm depending on CD's since there is no AUX to plug in my mp3 player.

No snow here, but the rain is coming down sideways and there is a fair amount of lightning and thunder. And it's 34 degrees. The snow line is about 30 miles north of me. It can stay there.

On a brighter note, my quick and ugly repair around the chimney flashing a month or so back seems to be holding up. I guess that Ace Hardware roof coating stuff really does work.
