I'm not sure that's entirely true.

Here in Pa they hit you for $25 for 5 years. That's only $5 per year. I don't know if the county pays a fee for the background check but I'm sure there's at least $25 worth of clerical time involved to process the permit.

The The National Firearms Act (NFA), 73rd Congress, Sess. 2, ch. 757, 48 Stat.1236, enacted on June 26, 1934, currently codified as amended as I.R.C.ch. 53, is an Act of Congress in the United States that, in general, imposes a statutory excise tax

Like the current National Firearms Act (NFA), the 1934 Act required NFA firearms to be registered and taxed.

Uhmm... but that's for NFA items, they still currently require mucho checks and a $200 tax stamp prior to acquisition.
I'm a little lost on this one.
(I'll blame it on NyQuill, I'm about toast tonight)

I'm sure, heck, I know I'm on quite a few lists, and there is far too much personal information about me available. If that's not bad enough, since I live in a small rural community, my email is read like the morning newspaper, my snail mail is constantly tampered with, and just about every aspect of my personal life is common knowledge. Even potentially my telephone calls. Add to it my internet activity, though I have tried to keep it private, is also common knowledge. That includes my forum activities!

How do I know? All I need do is get into a conversation with one or more of the locals and often times I have had various things quoted verbatim. I've terminated friendships because they seem to think they have the right to disclose personal information about me to whomever. Mind you, I don't have anything to hide, don't have a nefarious past, but do take offense that I can't keep my private life private. It's like having someone snooping through your underwear drawer at any given time.

If you own a single firearm, purchased though a dealer, you are on at least one list. Have insurance of any kind, your on a list. Purchase a home, your on a list. The same for most any kind of vehicle. If you have credit cards, your on a list. Hunting or Depredation Permits, your on a list. Arrests of any kind, be it for speeding or a simple parking ticket will put you on a list. For all I know, if you make purchases from Amazon, your likely on another list. From those lists they compile the data to determine what kind of a person you are, what kind of risk you are. That's even if the lists are inaccurate.

I have considered getting a CCW permit, but that would put me on another list. So nope, not gonna do it! All my firearms stay at home anyway since they are for personal and property protection. I tried the Open Cary thing, but that usually ends up with the police stopping me because someone decided to call the police because "She has a big gun on her hip," running a check on me and checking the serial number on my firearm to make sure it isn't stolen. So a half hour to an hour later, I can go back about my business. I'm surprised they didn't confiscate it if only to run a ballistics check.

But, I have found that if you are not active on one or more lists, your dropped from whatever list. Sometimes in as little as a few years. That doesn't apply to all lists, but a good number of them. However, the more lists your dropped from, the less information is available. So my overall profile is sketchy at best, and becoming more so.

The way I see it, my personal life is my business and as long as it doesn't affect anyone negatively that's the way it should stay. All anyone really needs to know is I'm a 64 year old disabled female. Disabled since 1987, and more so since 2007 and 2010. My income is from a little nestegg and not from any government institution be it Social Security or SSI/d or welfare. I have no credit, thus no credit cards, no mortgage, no loans. I own everything I have including my home outright which is taxed accordingly. Hmmm, maybe I should add that to my profile here on FHC! Nahh!

It's still a good deal in NH, we're open carry, and if you want a concealed permit, it's only 10 bucks for four years. Just drop off a one page application at your town PD. Come back in about a week. If you're clean, here is your permit.
