Thanks to everybody for the engine break-in information. Since this is the last new saw I will most likely ever purchase, I want to make sure I do it right. I've attached some pictures of the 044. I would love to find the parts to get it back together for my cutting partner. He's 80 and going strong, but the sun is probably setting on this wood cutting days and this was the only saw that he ever owned. I've done the internet searches and come up empty except for the aftermarket stuff from Hong Kong. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thats a good looking saw with the new style clutch cover. I'm a fan of all the M-tronic/Autotune saws. Enjoy !

I wasen't really in the market for a new saw, but my cutting partner squashed his 044 a couple weeks ago and needed a new saw, so I sold him my MS 360 Pro, which has been a great saw for me and will be missed. He is 80 and the lighter weight and decomp valve works well for him. I will post up some pics in the future of the poor 044, which he gave to me as a project. Anyway, my first impressions of the saw are very good. I put one tank of gas through today and it ran like a champ. 4 pulls to get it started cold, settled down quickly and idled smooth. Revs came up quick and after a dozen cuts at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle it really started to settle in. The manual says up to 15 tanks for full break in, so I will reluctantly stay out of wide open throttle for a few more tanks. I put the saw down to pile rounds, so maybe 5 minutes of not running, then 1 easy pull to start.
A few changes from the 361 like captive bar nuts, master control and of course the M-tronic. On a side note it turned out to be a better looking saw than what the Stihl catalog shows. I am used to the split cover on my 441 and 660, but this one looks pretty good. I will keep everyone posted on the performance as I have a bit of cutting ahead of me.

That saw is designed like all of them to be run wide open on break in as well as run at wide open so the computer will set the tune on it. At least thats what the manual says.

Id look for a decent used but seriously id put a huztle tank on that saw and go with it . Always looking for an oem. That think just was kissed no real damage done. Just the cover and handle

That is version 2 of the 362CM... Different cyl, clutch cover, and what I've seen is its lighter than a 562xp.

Give us a full review when you've cut some wood with it
