On a typical saw, is there a gasket between the muffler and backing plate, and then another one between the cylinder head (where the exhaust port meets the backing plate) and the backing plate?

In other words, should it be:

    cylinder head exhaust port/gasket/backing plate/gasket/muffler

    or

    cylinder head exhaust port/backing plate/gasket/muffler.

My little Husqvarna 240 has it the second way, no gasket off of the exhaust port. I'm looking at parts diagrams, and see no mention of the gasket I appear to be missing?? What say you.

    Husqvarna 240 Parts List and Diagram - (2008-01) : eReplacementParts.com

Page G, and page I are the ones with the parts. I can always make a gasket, but is it not weird that there's no gasket off the head? Any thoughts appreciated.

Well, I'm not "exactly" sure I'm missing a part, but part #7, behind it so to speak. I'm wondering why there's not a twin to part #6, behind that plate.

The parts list that Pantelis is showing is correct. What you posted. (cylinder head exhaust port/backing plate/gasket/muffler) This is correct.
This is also pretty normal on a lot of saws.

Most newer Poulans and homeowner Huskys only have 1 gasket. Tighten it down like IPL shows above.

There never is a need for one I guess. All the Husqvarna saws I tare into are set up basically like that illustration above. It seems to seal up just fine that way :)

First chainsaw I've owned, and it just seemed like a gasket should be there. Shows what I know.:D

I don't understand why some people don't understand what capitalization, run on sentences, punctuation, or the difference between America and Canada is. And yet, here you are. While I learned something interesting, I don't think you did....
Are you in that part of Europe that doesn't know where Canada is? I hate those guys.

    :canada:

Thanks guys, I was really wondering where the gasket had gone lol

Just lobbing the ball back, no worries.

One of my first jobs (many years ago!) was working for a Greek man, who owned a Pizza place, and I was a delivery driver. One very nice guy, although I heard he went back to Greece in the last few years.
