Watching the fire is so much better than TV

I haven't had a TV in my living room for the last 2 years. I've been meaning to replace it, but I just don't miss it one bit.

I watch my fire. It's the complete opposite of TV. You think about the things in your real life, instead of the mindless drivel the TV wants to sell you.

If you ask me, that's the root of the "problem" with our society today. Too many people watching TV, and not enough watching fire.

This is good stuff. I find myself alone in the basement in front of the BK thinking quite often, usually with a beer.

Once you get shack happy, you'll be singing a different song!

    And a guitar. :)

While I do have a TV in my little hideaway, the only time I have it on is first thing in the morning to see if anyone did something stupid overnight and to catch the weather.

Tv off and lounging by the fire with a drink is my favorite!

I gave up TV. Nothing worth watching anymore. Maybe some football every once and a while but that's about it for me.

I'd rather learn how to do something on YouTube.

I'm guilty of that, even in the summer time. :)

So do you set up a wood rack and the 3 piece fire place tender by the TV?

    Shawn,
I stopped tv about 2 years ago. I watched for 10 minutes this morning to get the weather and some news but most days I get that online too. My wife is still very much of a tv watcher along with my kids. I am with Lukem that I have replaced the tv with the computer because I can read, see things that I am interested in learning about. I am part of the "no end to knowledge crowd".
Probably have to get one but maybe just a small simple on that doesn't cost an arm and leg.

We have one 21 inch TV, and most people wouldn't notice it if they walked into our house. We usually go several days without turning it on. We never watch the "news," because it isn't. I learn more about real life sitting in a comfy chair reading.

We have never paid for TV (as in cable or satellite). I learned a quite few years ago that it is generally unnecessary.

I am looking forward to the day when the 30-NC is installed, because I can't see the fire through the cast iron door of Moe (the Alnighter).
