Most of you have seen plenty of pics already of my little wood helper but i was totally amazed yesterday when she insisted on picking her own splits from the stack and carrying them to the ranger. Here's a quick vid of baby piney pullin her weight to keep the house warm. Im not violating any child labor laws am i?

Definitely a proud daddy moment :tears:

    Mine is a bit older......
She disobeyed her mother last Sunday and she has been on wood duty since. She had to haul the splits from the pile and stack them in our "docking" area. The last two loads she had hand in all of the splits while I stayed warm inside stacking in the rack....

Yep, the one down in the stack.......:picard::)Very cute.
She seems pretty eager to help, so that's good.

When you use handling firewood as a punishment, how can they learn to appreciate it? All she will learn is Daddy must have done something terrible because of all the work your doing with firewood.

    Maybe.....
We let them know that if they like a warm house, then they can help with wood. I normally make them help mom as they stack the wood into the truck while I am felling and bucking. They do get a chance to play a little in the woods:

A couple of weeks ago they were playing near a small creek. When it was clear so they could load wood my son starts complaining, "My toes are cold.... it is too cold, etc..." Being the wonderful nice father I make myself out to be I let him know that if he stacks wood faster his feet will warm up :) (inside my head I do feel a little bit bad in case his feet got wet....) Then just a few minutes later when they are able to go back to the creek I ask him, "I thought your feet were cold...." He responded, "they are not cold anymore..."

Both kids want to split the wood, but they are not yet big enough to handle the mauls or axes. I will think about getting a splitter after they leave the house....

You're doing it right. I have my little guy bring splits from the back door to the indoor wood bin. He loves it!

I just can't bring myself to like this. Moving wood should never be punishment.

If you are breaking any child labor laws there, I say keep on breaking them! These kinds of moments make great memories and it is good for the child too because they want to help!
