I think so too, but until I speak with someone about it, I don't know for sure.

 

No need to apologize. When you start out initially, look for some horses that are well broke and quiet. Often times riding schools or trail riders have horses with that type of disposition. Although it may not be 100% certain, horses from that environment are generally pretty trust worthy. Don't deny them the opportunity to enjoy the experience, just be patient on finding the right stock to make it pleasurable for all concerned............................

 

Oh, that has been discussed, several times. We will get a couple of horses that are well trained, good for trail riding, and probably between 6-10 years old. I don't care if we have to spend some extra money. We will take every precaution we can. I am going to make sure the kids are not going to be in the stalls with the horses. But you know, no matter what you do, that will not be a guarantee. Life is full of risk. I know you can't live in a bubble. But we do have to consider that the more you put yourself at risk, the more likely something like this is going to happen.

With a chainsaw, or a tractor, I have control over it. What I tell it to do is what it will do. There is risk, but it can be controlled. A large animal like a horse is another story all together. Just sayin.

 

Yeah, the first game was a good one. Gooder how it ended too.

The second game, not such a great game, but AZ had no right to even be playing in that game.

Now for the Superbowl. Most of me knows that Carolina will be victorious, probably in a big way. But the dreamer in me says that Denver will win and Peyton can retire on top after the game.

It should be a great defensive battle. It better not be like the last Denver superbowl. That was not a good game to watch. We want a great game. Not a blowout.

It's good you vented. If she's accident prone, maybe a horse isn't a great idea?

Some horses are not great at taking orders from those they don't trust.

Idk, maybe you just need to be super selective with her horse? As in over ride her decision on a certain horse if the current owner is thinking that particular one isn't the right horse for her?

Maybe get a slow walking horse, one of those lazy non azz hauling horses?

Just rambling on from my limited horse riding knowledge.

I have told her of the many benefits of something that has a key. Told her to look at all the things out there that you can put into the barn and turn the key off and not have to worry about it until the next time your ready to ride. 4 wheelers, Side x sides, mini bikes. Work equipment like a Bobcat tool cat, tractor. She loves to garden and do flowers and landscaping.

Has your wife spent a good amount of time at a horse barn or riding school? I may have missed this in the thread. I understand the concern for the safety of the family. But there has to be wonderful horses with great temperments out there. Riding schools have horses that people of different disabilities can ride.

What I'm saying is that maybe an experienced horse riding instructor can give your wife good pointers and learn what to look for in a horse.

 

Horses are like Italian sports cars....except more work....and sometimes even more tempremental. I grew up around horses...and like riding other people's horses....but I don't want anything to do with owning one.

 

She looked around and found a nice instructor who had good experience and taught Western riding style and trail rides horses. She really likes the instructor. Good with horses and people. She is just like you were saying.

I don't know how many hours of lessons she has in, not a lot. Maybe 25? I don't know. Then she got hurt at the end of her last lesson. Next people who were coming in for a lesson banged on the metal door of the arena. A big no no! And my wife and instructor were in the arena not far from the door. Wife on horse. Spooked the horse and it took off quicker than chit. Wife fell off. Wasn't expecting it. Broke collar bone.

I love my wife. So I'll make this happen for her. But it's really tough to watch when you think you know she is making a mistake. Just the combination of her and our three kids when they are all together. The way they interact. Loving, caring toward each other, great people. But the combination of personalities. I can see someone getting hurt. I can see just my wife getting hurt. Because I know some of the things she misses, does, doesn't do. You know what I mean Jon? I don't know how else to say it. Other than, I can see it happening. And I love them all and don't want it to happen. Don't want any of them to get hurt.

 

Valid point. It weighs heavy for you, but the decision has to be made in the best interest of everyone. If the length of recovery to her shoulder is prolonged, I wonder if it will it change her mind?

 

All set to leave the weekend project ahead of schedule...then the system takes a dump (my part worked fine). Finally got it back up and made the 1:15 drive to the airport in 50 minutes....I was HAULING AZZ. Made it by the skin of my teeth. Should be home in 4 hours.
