    Try, try again...

...Seems to be the motto of my MVAE.

Kept dumping pellets into the ash pan overnight when it didn't start, so I have about a cup of ashes and a pan full of pellets. Just a simple ignitor gone bad, (I think), so I'll dig out the spare later this morning. Amazing how that stove chews through them because of that idiotic autoclean. I have a Santa Fe insert (no autoclean, of course) and it requires cleaning no more often than the MVAE despite running just as much.

Ah, well. At least it looks good.

On the plus side, the ash shown is after a full week of running with Hamer's. Cleanest pellet I've ever used, and has been for years now.

What year is your stove? How long are ignitors lasting for you?

    X2...

And happy to see you posting. Lots of us have owned Quads, or currently own them. So there is lots of knowledge here on them. I ran a Classic Bay 1200 for around 5 years. They are great stoves.

2010. I think this is #3 or 4, so roughly 2 years. I keep a spare on hand.

I like it here. No mod scolding yet, so probably a new record for me. Nice to see a bunch of old friends. I don't much recognize my old neighborhood, except for those that smack my hand with a ruler. Thanks for having me.

You won't find any scolding here. Politics are something we frown on. But other than that? We welcome everyone!

We have a Quad 1000 built in 93.

This stove originally came with the clay fire pot and and the funky (and very brittle) ceramic igniter.

The bottom fell out of the clay pot after less than a year.

The factory replaced the pots with a fabricated steel unit and a metal igniter U shaped gizmo.

We are on the second or third pot after all these years.

Maybe as many igniters as well.

Igniters are about $50 but the pots get into the $300-500 range depending on how bad ya need one.

They erode around the top area and eventually crack and burn away until the air from the draft inducer blows up from the bottom chamber and blows the fire away from the thermocouple.

Once that happens the thing will not register high pot heat and will shut off.

    NEW POT TIME

i switched to the 300 watt model. the heatilator (and several quads) have the 380 watt unit.
i think the 300 watt doesn't work in multi fuel applications, but it works perfectly with wood pellets.
fingers crossed this one lasts longer. it's getting dammed expensive, and wifey insists we have an ignitor.

Thanks, all. Set to go for the next time. Ordered a spare for the Santa Fe from a friend this evening.

That is a good deal. I always carried a spare for my CB 1200. Replaced it on year #3. Then sold it a year later in the Spring with a replacement ignitor.

The guy that bought it works with me and he said the combustion blower is making noise. After almost 8 years? I think it's time. Especially because I ran it on Low 24/7 once it was below freezing.

And it might just need a good cleaning, or a drop of oil (if possible).
