Reminds me of the poor kid I grew up with. His birthday was coming up; his Mom wanted to get him some clothes; his Dad wanted to get him a toy. They compromised. Bought him a pair of pants and cut the bottoms out of the front pockets.

Indeed. Got chilly last night. My better half told me it was minus 30 C when she retired (28 below F) and I left her two large square splits about 9x9 to and 18 inches long (30 -40 lbs) to toss in as she retired and there were lots of coals left when I got up but only 70 degrees in the house and we prefer 80 for obvious reasons. I'm thinking the big wood burner was a smart move. That's the coldest so far but am sure we'll get colder ones yet.

15 deg here now, not a bad temp for us this time of the year. There's a good strong wind behind it that is doing it's thing, so burning more like it was subzero.:fire:

We had some pretty cold temps. The last couple of days were-4, -8, then -5 this am.

It's 10 degrees out now. Feels downright balmy. Nearly Stinny like and getting the swim trunks on to hang out in a lawn chair in the snow.

Shagbark, ironwood, beech, and sugar maple kept us warm.
