I'll be cutting some of that dead elm this weekend too. Some will be a little past it's prime, some will be perfect and RTB and some will have to sit a year - all off the same tree.
That's a midwest elm... part of it alive, part of it so rotten there's raccoons and squirrels holed up in it, and at least a third of it can't decide if it's dead or alive.
Yes sir, you have some good elm there. Even where it shows signs of turning punky will burn just fine.
