With the first kinda cold spell this weekend, Eagle Rare was the bourbon of choice this weekend.

I haven't seen a bourbon thread for a while so I figured I'd start one, and get some new ideas of what to taste next.

A buddy got me this bottle for Christmas and it is one of the better ones I've had lately. I got him a bottle of "Duke" and he said it was excellent, I just haven't had a chance to try it yet myself.

My staple is Woodford Reserve, mostly because I like it, and more importantly, my wife does also.

I typically also always have some Knob Creek around since it's a tad cheaper and my wife won't touch it, so if I feel like drinking without her stealing sips that's what I'll go with. I've been meaning to splurge on a bottle of Blanton's next time I see it. Someone got me a bottle for my wedding and I remember REALLY liking it, so I wanted to give it another shot.

I have a bottle of woodford and knob creek. Also, colorado whisky (stranahan's) and bookers.
Haven't drank much of it since getting them way over a year ago.....

A co-worker kept taking about Elijah Craig and got me a bottle this Christmas. It was pretty good. Usually I buy Jim Beam if it's going to get mixed with Coke or sour mix.

Whiskey/bourbon is my favorite liquor. I don't buy it very often as the bottles seem to empty themselves too quick.

In no particular order, here are the ones that I drink 99.9% strait. Just a few drops of water to open the aromatic notes. No ice, no 20% water!

    W.L. Weller 12yr
    Basil Hayden's
    Knob Creek Special Res
    Elijah Craig

Jim Beam Double Black comes to mind. Makers Mark also.
Not really into straight bourbon too much.

I always have a bottle around. The 81 is one of my favorites for mixing, 101 is for getting stupid (which I have been known to do on occasion)

Basil Haydens I enjoy quite a bit as well as Bullet. Orange or Green label.
I am a fan of Ryes, mostly because others don't like the difference in taste so I get more to myself.

Jim Beam is a normal stand by as is Devils Cut.

I've tried all the above except Elmer and Weller. I will have to try and find at the liquor store next time.

My current stash, off the top of my head:

For special occasions, usually the first big big snowfall, I've got a half full bottle of Pappy's 15yr. Bottle I had before that was a 23, was able to buy a few before the prices went nuts oh so long ago.
    Booker's
    Baker's
    Woodford Reserve
    Turkey 101 (1.75ltr!)
    Jefferson's 1776
    Beam
Some odd one from Ohio (?), can't remember the name. Unmemorable due to being unremarkable.
Maybe another odd duck from Tennessee, again unremarkable.
    Eagle Rare
    Bulleit
    And a couple of others.

And some white dog, white lightning. Can't figure out a use for that stuff.

The bourbons have been taking a back set to some rye that I have, and to some scotch that I've been sliding into. Irish too, I do like a nice Irish.

Had a bar nearby in the city that had 100+ single malts on the rail...Irish and Scotch. Not too many bourbons, just the generics. Very little in the way of ryes. Sadly they went belly up. Hard to believe they did with the amount of $$$ I dropped there.

That's the stuff you give to younger kids when they want a sip of adult liquids. Keeps their curiosity at bay for several more years. Also good to make apple pie from instead of everclear. Lastly, good challenge shot for those that have too much ego and need to be taken down a notch.

Woodford Reserve was on sale here in 1.75L for $35 before Christmas. I got 2...

Elmer and Weller are not kept on the shelves here. Weller is a "wheated" bourbon so it has very little spice and is exceptionally smooth. My liquor store manager knows a few of us that like bourbon so she gets a few "better bottles" for us at a big mark down when she orders a bunch of the other liquors. She passes them on to us for the same price as a bottle of beam or turkey. Keeps us happy and coming back.

If you guys like rye... There is a whiskey called "Ri" that is really good too. $40 a bottle though.

Nice connection. We have a liquor store here that has quite a few odd or rare options in liquor/wine/and beer. And if you want to order something in they will. I have a pretty convenient state store at the highway exit of my camp tht they always seem to order in unique options. Every time I go to camp, my truck seems to pull to the left and into the parking lot to check out the new arrivals.

Not a bourbon aficionado, but I'll go through a bottle of Jim Beam each winter. Either on the rocks or in Manhattans.

I used to enjoy bourbon and have tried almost every brand mentioned on here plus more.
Somewhere along the line, I realized that I didn't like the "after burn" that bourbon provides and switched over to rye and scotch.

And I drink a lot less now, so an occasional splash is good enough for me.

Great thread! Some in here ive had and some I will have to hunt down. That Stranahans is pretty tasty! Got to check out their set up once. Neat little distillery.

I usually stick to the white dog I turn out. About 2 weeks on a blend of varying toast oak chips and it's as smooth as anything I've had.
