I love it when the weather lady does a dance around here forecast the next day. All that snow we were to get , well it shifted south of us. We could use some snow to protect my soil and trees.

Thanks all for the assistance on the pressure switch. I'll be sure to label the hoses.

Although its felt like a quiet winter, last night WMUR went through last years stats. Except for the Thanksgiving storm, we are pretty much similar snow amounts to last year. It was late January and Feb that clobbered us. I still remember Mike Haddad of WMUR saying we are getting into an active pattern that looks like it wont let up for quite a while. Man was he ever right.

My home PC is acting like smokeshow, So I've been doing some digging and ordered up some new components. The brown truck drops some off tonight and Friday the white truck should drop off the rest.

    :ups:

Spent a bit more than I wanted too, But it should last another 6 years. I'll be doing my sons gamer once income tax return has landed. His is older and he was drooling while I was ordering my stuff. Might have to spring for a new laptop for momma!! Its not much faster than a snail lately!

Stimulated the economy and the weekend is planned. Brewski's and computer stuff go together, Don't they??

What did you get for the new toys? :ups:

I just upgraded my old laptop with an SSD drive and its like a new computer again in relation to boot times and loading any programs. Internet seems snappier as well. I should have done it long ago.

My honey's laptop is snail pace as well, so next time I see a good price on a decent SSD, gonna try that on hers. My migration was easy-image the old drive and restore-done and everything worked. Hers may require a clean install of the operating system as well as the the SSD.

I went AMD this time. Couldn't afford the Intel i5 processor........... I'll post some pic's when I get the stuff in my grubby mits.

    Spec's
AMD FX-4350 Vishera AM3+ 4.2 Ghz Quad core.
Asus M5A99X EVO R2.0 mboard with 990x chipset.
Nvidea 2 gb Gforce 740 vid card.
    Gskill sniper 16GB DDR3 PC3 12800
WD 1 TB hdd 7200rpm sata 6 gbps
Gamer case and a 600w PS.

Seeing my old one was only a 3.2 single core and 2 gb DDR2 it should be night and day with the new rocket. I'll definitely spend the $$ on my sons and go with an Intel. Mine is just a photo edit internet cruiser.

I thought the wifeys laptop would get a boost with a new ssd drive but it still crawls. Its like 6 years old and only has a Centrino 1.86 Ghz processor. Upped the memory last summer to 2 gig and its all it will handle. Been looking at the Toshiba laptops and should be able to get a pocket rosket for under $5 clams. Hoping for an easter special sale. ;)

When your computer is running slow, there are many things to rule out. Often the start up menu is overloaded with things that all feel they are have priority to the Ram. I have solved this dilemma a few way, one is to run: msconfig then startup, then select all and save. this shuts them all down, or you can pick and chose. Once I restart the computer, i'll select the virus scan for the start up and leave the others as icons or apps to open as I see fit. No need to have most of these running in the back ground. Another way is to go to the control center and review your programs. You will be surprised how many hitch hikers you pick up. Uninstall those. Easy way is to scan the dates and you will need when new unwanted junk came on line. I have 14 g of Ram and still am very selective about what I allow in the start up.

My current config(which is better than 6 years old) was fine until the motherboard decided it wasn't gonna let me use more than one memory bank. Its was my fault. I let it get hot and she said no and shutdown. I get like 20 minutes until it decides it wants to reboot. Hope and pray you finish what you started and can save things.

No blue screen, no other errors! It just quits, I tried to clean the bunnies out to help the cooling and such. But something got tweaked or poofed. Video/graphics also suffered. Some odd lines show on the monitor. I can't run the FSB higher than 667 where it used to run 1066 NP.

    Its time!!

Years of arguing with the PC, and learning the above, I often spoke of it to the kids. They all said to switch and I wouldn't regret it. I sure don't miss all this. Switched to an iMac and never looked back. I did have trouble a few software upgrades ago, with no warning the Mac needed more RAM to reboot itself after a software upgrade and the screen froze. Once I got wind of the issue, I order more RAM and after the install everything was back to normal. The discussion is now focused on what will be our next move, as the mac is about to have it's six year birthday. Desktops are becoming dinosaurs. Tablets are for folks with better eyesight and smaller hands, so it may well be a laptop.

my win 7 machine has never given me any problems in 5 years.

i have zero desire to "upgrade" to win 10.

wifey's lappy with xp still irritates me a bit/
"why can't they just put things where i can see them!?"

i have about 6 of the lap tops. They break easily. I use the tablet, the smart phone and the mostly the desk top now. Like to work with two large screens at the same time. Allows me to go back and forth without tabbing back and forth. I can look things up on one search and keep my main pages open. I can show the equivalent of 4 sheets of paper at one time. I can have a movie or tv on one side and surf the net on the other. Desktops don't fall or get broken. They just out date or get bound up by junk. I also run a back up drive so if something goes down, all is not lost. I think my first lap top was about $1800. Now, I wouldn't go over $700. I do agree that the apple products are less of a problem. Fast and very dependable.

The boss has a laptop, she no longer uses it, the damm thing has Windows Vista on it. I might wipe it and install a sensible system on it like MVS and do something useful like run a Rail-road with it.

Same model as I have. It's worked like a charm for 2 years now. Saved my arse once or twice when the power went out for a few hours in the swamp here.
