I've got propane, not exactly a monthly bill but the tank was full at 80% in November and now it's at 70%. 250 gallon tank, so I've used 25 gallons of propane at $1.30 a gallon for this whole winter. Up here we get hosed on electric, average around $150 a month with some bills up over $200:hair:

last year I switched over my high usage light bulbs to LED. my electric bill dropped $20 to $30 dollars a month. There expensive at $10 a piece but with a pay back that fast I figure it was worth it.

I pay Long Island, New York rates (read that as the rates are ridiculously high). Gas (hot water, cooking, clothes dryer) about $75-$90 month. Electric (with three kids that don't know how to shut a light or anything else) about $150 month.

I'm at a average during the winter at $90 electric bill, during the summer it actually goes up, maybe a average of $120, my 250 gallon propane tank was a couple hundred bucks to fill but with the only draw from that being our back up furnace it should last me 5 maybe 6 years, only using it in below zero temps to give the owb a break

Total latest bill is about $110 for both. About $30 for gas, because I ran the little DV heater a bit last month. We only heat water with it otherwise.
The rest is electric, and our biggest use is the dryer. With FIL here, our laundry is way more than if it was just my wife and I.
Normal use would be about $90-100 total.

I get attitude from some people that say burning wood is no savings. I figure at this time of the year is when you start to see your ROI . When I tell them my g&E bill is $105 a month and theirs is three to four hundred a month is when I say " not worth it ha".

$80-90 a month for propane and about $220 for electric. Two families in two apartments. Plus burn pellets in one unit. My son uses a lot, plus he and his family leave lights on all the time. I changed them all over to LED and CFU. They have an electric stove upstairs, plus their washer and dryer runs every day.

electric $110/mo average. No gas but use about 50 gallons of heating oil annually + the wood we burn. The climate here is approaching borderline arctic.

I don't use much oil per year anymore. Can heat house, garage, and hot water with wood. But I use oil in the summer now for hot water. And at different times throughout the year when gone for a day or two.

So if I figure 200 gallons a year at say 3.25/gallon = $650. Divide by 12 months that is an average of $54/month.

Out electricity for the house is running between $90-120/month. Two adults and three kids.

    So if I figure $110/month + $54/month = $164/month.

    4200 sq.ft. house + 900 sq.ft. Two bay garage.

If I was heating everything with oil it would probably average out to $500/month. :faint:

I would say it's worth it. Especially because I enjoy being outside, being active, and in good health.

To a point, the control is in our own hands.
Turning off unused lights, turning down the thermostat, wearing sweaters/shirts,....all up to us.
You wanna' play, you gotta' pay.
It's more about use than cost, although they're inter-related. Cut use, reduce cost.
People in general really like/prefer convenience. There's usually a huge cost for that.

My wife and I figured that we save just over $1000.00 a year by using wood. This includes the money for saw gas and oil, diesel for the truck, and misc. expenses.

You are correct Keweenaw. The break down should show on your bill.

I was just looking at my bill, it says I used 610 kwh and was charged 114.07 for it not including service charge taxes etc. so I took my 114.07 and divided it by 610 and got .187, so I'm paying roughly $0.19 per kwh correct?
