morning fellas, been reading the forum for a while and this is my first post. i have heated with wood for years.upstairs with a king fireplace insert and downstairs with an englander pellet stove. do you guys have any opinions or history on king inserts? i bought is used several years ago and seems to be a quality stove. thanks
My BK King was a slammer, mfg's in the 1980's that was here when we bought the house. It was obvious that wet wood had been burned for decades through that stove. I appreciate the peace of mind that we are now safe with the chimney chipped from creasote and using a new liner, but WOW do I miss the big firebox in the King. Hopefully yours is newer, but mine required a custom flue adapter that never happened.
my king is an insert in my fireplace that just empties in the firebox. it does not connect to the flu, it is sealed around the front and drafts very well. i burn really dry wood and always have. not sure how old it is but am very happy with its btu production and don't have any trouble with creosote.
not really, mine is a lighter color, probably a bronze and it looks wider. also the fan housing is cut off on each corner, maybe at a 45 degree angle. i will look for a model number tomorrow.
Thats how ours was too. Might be worth your time to double check home owners insurance to make sure that kind of installation is accepted, just incase?
How big is the flue? We had a slammer in my parents house that we bought in the early 80's. It worked, but even with dry wood, there would be creosote from time to time due to the size of the flue. I had the same issue here with my fireplace until I put the insert in it this year. It's just a lack of velocity thing with a large flue.
my king fireplace insert is a model m14 and was built in'85. it has a rectangular opening in the top, i was told when we installed ,that it didn't need a pipe connected and run up the chimney. if there was a round opening it did. i don't know, but it has worked well for years.
