This started at the end of last season, so I did not worry about it. I just finished burning the last of the Lignetics, and I love them, I can go about a week before shutting down to do a good cleaning. Now I am burning Somersets, and I am back with the same problem. Carbon Buildup! With in a day the burn pot is built up with carbon, and I hear the dreaded sound of the agitator scraping the carbon. It is a pain in the butt to have to shut down every day to chip out the carbon in the burn pot. I have never messed with the factory settings, because the stove will eat anything I throw at it. I could try to adjust the feed, and air settings, or I could change the agitator settings to spin with every revolution of the auger, instead of every 30 minutes. Any advice would be appreciated!

When did you last do a deep cleaning to include the exhaust pipe. Have you tried the leaf blower cleaning thing to augment your cleaning? Are you running it on stat or low constant?

I do not use a leaf blower, but It had a deep clean 2 weeks ago, pipe swept, blowers pulled and cleaned, the whole works. I am thinking along the lines you are as I run the stove in low most of the time. I am thinking that and wondering if Somersets have more Silica in them!

FWIW I had carbon buildup in the feed tube of my 25 PDVC on occasion that I would have to chip out. And all of us Harman owners have buildup in our burn pots regularly, like it has to be chipped out weekly, no matter what pellets I burn. It wouldn't hurt to increase the frequency of your agitator.

It's a very minor issue with a Harman.

Minor issue with his stove also Hormone lovers...I have to scrape my pot with every cleaning whether it be one week or two in between. Never got to the point where the agitator started scraping though. Probably running on low is the issue, maybe needs more air??

My stirrer runs in conjunction with the auger and I never have very much carbon buildup, maybe 1/16" to 1/8" thick spots about the size of a dime after a week or two. I also slowed the stirrer from 2 RPM to 1 RPM to cut down on the flyash.

Definitely needs more air when on low fire for long periods. But its not opening the damper. We've found adding some extra holes in the liner cleans up the carbon by the ignitor hole which is where mine would build up.

Burned 20 some odd bags of sets and still don't hear any whining from the agitator.

Before pic. You can see where it seems to build on the Omega.

Then I drilled a few holes to start with and it helped alot.

I think we have a thread on this somewhere?? Lemme check..

I would guess WWW scrapes atleast 2x per week. Also when the stove runs out of pellets and we have to reignite it. But I have heard I burn more pellets than others?
