Nope. Do like they do in some of those "barbaric" countries; cut the hand off entirely. Makes for quite the deterrent. And if they are caught a second time, well........................

That's what they use to do in my country. Yugoslavia. They would cut a finger, next time they caught you the hand came off..

here is what Stihl's website says under FAQ's
My STIHL chainsaw was stolen. Do you track them?
STIHL Inc. maintains a Stolen Unit Database. If your STIHL product was stolen, please report it stolen to your local law enforcement agency. Then contact us with your name, address, model number and serial number. If the unit was registered at the time of purchase, we can have it added to the Stolen Unit Database.
here is a customer service link
Stihl customer service phone numbers and support

So a year ago i bought a brand new 362CM off craigslist for a unbelievable price, obviously red flags were going off in my head and I figured it was stolen, I got the s/n and emailed it to Stihl asking for history and if was ever reported stolen. and they answered me with this

"This MS362C chainsaw was produced on 8/12/2014 here at our facility in Virginia Beach, Va. The saw was sold to the registered owner on 11/24/2014, and since then has not been returned for any service issues or problems according to the registration documentation.
There is no stolen unit flag in the registration of this chainsaw. We have a stolen unit database that is maintained by our registration specialist, who is the only person with access to enter information into it. This information is then conveyed to the service website used by our dealers to access repair and warranty information on the units they receive for repair. If the unit is stolen, a flag will pop up on the screen informing the dealer to contact the law enforcement agency concerned in the theft of the unit.
If the owner reported the machine stolen, the information would be shown in the registration to any dealer who accessed the national dealer service website."
