This is on cl. I don't have a better pic, as this is all there is. What do you think it is? Looks like pine of some sort to me.
Man that's tough to say by that pic. Could be pine. Or another thin bark specie If it's free I'd say it's the kind you CSS and burn at some point. Free is always gooder!
It would have to be at least box elder or silver maple for me to drive a half hour for it. I won't bother for pine. It's definitely not silver maple. There's a ton of box elder around here. There are a lot of yard bird Honey locusts around the cities in Milwaukee and all of the cities and towns in SE Wisconsin. I'm always looking out for those, or other gooder wood.
The piece on the left has a big branch/wye sticking straight up. That would be a really big branch for a pine wouldn't it?
Looking at the branches or where it has branched off the main trunk, and with the thin bark, I would say it's white pine.
Man I hear that! Didn't know how far away it was. I got about 50-75 8" box elder on my property l would love to be rid of. Those yard honey locusts are nice because they are usually a species with less thorns.
There's no thorns on any of the locusts here. They line all the streets, and every home around here has at least one in the yard. Ours is happy and healthy, and not ash. So I have to keep it that way. If the EAB ever his here I'll have a ton of wood that I'd rather not have. I like the trees, there's no way of replacing a few 30" dbh hardwoods.
Most of the yard bird Honey locust around here have small thorns in the foliage but none on main trunk and main branches. Believe me you learn how to get out of the way when that stuff goes by you into the chipper auto feed! Great BTUs though. I will pray that EAB never makes it out your way. It has completely decimated the ash here! It's a shame too because the ash is such a nice tree.
Heh, yeah, it's a bad pic, because wood is wood, right? Lol. That branchy crotchy stump piece sure looks like white pine to me.
Even with cheap gas now, I don't think I'll be bothering with this. If I'm going to go this far, it better be for decent wood.
i am fortunate to not need to move wood in the snow, just too cold anymore. cold is a great motivator though.
I'll be in the woods next weekend at least one of the days. It's supposed to be highs in the single digits. I prefer out to be about 20-25° as that's my optimal working temps, but I'll suck it up.
i understand playing in the snow but as i get older i like it less. my father in law quotes henry ford with saying, When you heat with wood it heats you more than once. have fun and stay safe.
