They're predicting the end of our unseasonably mild winter here - we've supposedly got 6-10" of snow on the way this week. So I figured I ought to get one last firewood run while I still can. This was a beetle kill white pine in the side yard. Several other healthy ones nearby so I wanted it out of there. Looks like the top had blown off at some point so it was probably weakened. I like the looks of the yard with it gone because it opens up a view down one of my trails. About 6 loads of brush from this one and the red pine from last week. Ill let this season a bit and burn it probably in the spring. I stacked it behind the garage on top of some locust poles, along with the red pine from last week, and another 60 footer that blew over out in my woods a few weeks ago. I hauled that puppy out in the rain this morning. And last but not least, I topped off the front porch - little over a cord of locust and ash. Not my neatest stack but it was a personal best speed record. I moved and stacked around 2 face cord in just over an hour.
Believe the temperature prediction. It has been consistently above freezing for most of the "winter" so far but today I woke to 5ºF and the temperatures were dropping. Today's high was about 10ºF so winter has come on with a vengeance here. You are only a day or two behind me the way weather patterns move west to east and you are way north of my location in NY so stand by for a few negative numbers.
25º here right now, has dropped from 50º this morning, 1" of snow on the ground and the big bad wolf is trying to blow the house down. Good thing the cat is in the path of the flue or it might suck the whole round up the chimney. Way to get prepared Shawn
That's too much work. I'd need a couple hours just to contemplate doing 1/2 that. Ya' dun gooder, Shawn.
Nice work Shawn, you are in the same boat as I. Got two good size loads the last few days and bought a splitter but couldn't make it all come together, so the rounds are sitting in the driveway for now. Here comes winter, there predicting it in feet per days down here to the south of you. Hopefully you don't get it too bad up north, but your directly downwind of Ontario, right?
I'm about 5 miles south of the shoreline, but we actually don't tend to get it as bad as a little further south. The weather changed in a real hurry today - the temp dropped about 10 degrees and it started snowing about 20 mins after I finished up. About 2 inches on the ground now.
