The sun is out and it's time to clean the STOVES

We are getting a slight uptick in the weather for today, so figured I better "MUCKEM AND SUCKEM"

The Prodigy is all done and online while The ADV2T cools off enough to get close to it.

Ahhhh yesss, the joys of heating ones home when it's a manual thing eh.

I should be able to clean the big Whit in about 30 minutes or so.

Lovely weather today, been thinking about going downstairs and fooling with the new (To us Prodigy)

 

I just cleaned the Fahrenheit today as weather permitted it! Firing up the Harman as the weather will be warmer for a couple of days and then back to the Fahrenheit when the temps dip again.

 

I cleaned ours last weekend, just before this last round of storms. Got a bunch of rain (probably not as much as Oregon did) all week and snow last night. Tomorrow it's time to clean again.

 

Changed the door gasket today

 

3 days 4 max on the Prodigy if its on 24/round the clock
The Adv 2 T can manage a week if need be.
They both like to run far better after a full cleaning.

The nut shells leave a HUUUUUUUUUGE amount of ash as compared to wood pellets (Even the crappy ones)

A week on the big Whit will net about 4=5 inches of ashes in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket.

We put about two buckets a day of shells through it.

Ahhh well, if I did not have to clean them life would be boring

 

A good door gasket is a good thing.

I need to do a fresh one on both the Whits.
The dudes gasket looks pretty sad.

 

That happens to me every day

Waiting for the Accentra to run out'a fuel and cool down as temps are pushing into the 40's today it'll be it's 2nd clean of the season .

 

But the price is right , so it's a trade off

 

I would be willing to enter these "Messidors" in that contest. No matter what settings I have used, I have so much ash and soot. When I finish cleaning I need to use FastOrange to clean the now blacken hands, after having wipe off the tools. I'm thinking I need to collect pellets on each trip to civilization for next year.

 

Cleaning is certainly not the prettiest job of the day, but I don't like a dirty stove.

I have been toying with the idea of trying to make a pot stirrer, but the monkey motion to get anything that's gonna work will be complex and there is really no room in the Whit's cabinet to put anything.

The "Putty knife" method periodically through the day is likely the best.

Thinking about a couple scrapers with loooooonger handles to keep the pinkies from getting scorched.

The Harmon burn pot with the "Bottom feed-pushem out" looks great.

I would love to play with a Harman and see how it likes the shells.

Just one reason I won't any time soon, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Maybe one will fall from the sky and soft land in my backyard

The old Whits did there thing and the ash piles up all around the fire pot until it literally will fall in and nearly smother the fire.

Innovations come and go, but old attitudes die hard.

 

You need to discover these.....after the first few cleanings of my 1st pellet stove, I bought a couple boxes at the local hardware store.

The are pricey , but very well made , and they can take some abuse .

The old Earth stove was a bottom feeder as well.

We had a big one of those for a few years.

The fire pot sucked though.

I over clean my stove I'm sure . Every 3 - 4 days once the glass gets about half dirt and I see maybe an inch or 2 of ash . It takes be about 20 mins. and I'm good to go . CB1200

 

My Harman and the pellets I am burning have made me lazy. I only open it up about one a month now. Need to burn about 30 bags before the ash pan gets dumped. With my other stove, it was every 3 days to clean out clinkers.

 

Clean and ready for the next round.

 

I would love to find a good used Harman to fool with.

I think the self cleaning action of their fire pot would be great with the shells.

It should just push the clinkers and extra ash right out and into the ash pan.

Maybe my ship will come in and I will come across one CHEAP

The black ice mechanics gloves. Tough and they make life easy on the paws.

That strong alkali in the ash will really mess up your manicure for sure
