I love this idea. However; the room we are trying to heat would not benefit from a whole house humidifier. To keep it simple, the mechanicals from the main house are unable to tie into this room. As a result, most solutions would only satisfy this one room. The one exception would be to replace our forced hot air system with forced hot water. With forced hot water, I'd be able to run a special zone from the boiler to out family room.

If getting roof to hold til spring, I am assuming roof needs replacement. couple of buckets of oh henry, or roofing tar might get you thru.. Some even offer 2 year guarantee..

It's a very low pitch roof that standard roofing shingles are not approved for. We tried using a rolled shingle. However; the wind was able to get under them and tear them off. The replacement will be a rubberized roofing material.

Under the damage rolled roofing material is a layer of ice and water shield. This has held up so far. Just need it to last the winter. That is why I'm considering putting tarps on the roof to aid the 10 year old ice and water barrier.

No, his base problem is he is trying to heat a room without roof insulation. doesn't want to insulate with leaky roof. understand completely.. All heater in world trying to heat uninsulated area is going to be expensive.. my guess cheap way hot tar or whatever roof to hold 9 months put up temporary drop ceiling grids lay fiberglass over grids can reuse fiber glass when roof repaired til then no leaks easier to heat.

    My thoughts also
How about a roll of heavy plastic and furring strips. Create a ceiling to keep the warm air from rising and going through the roof. Also, dropping the ceiling would reduce the square footage that needs heated. Might look like a temporary job site, but you would be warm at night.

there is no standard building code in the states, sad but true. In pa there are some Townships that don't even require building permits.

Yes I was told that in another thread. When inquired at the local wood stove/pellet stove dealer in our town, I was informed that all either of them require is a to be fitted with an outdoor air kit. Before I proceed, I'd verify with the town. Though since they perform installations in our town which requires a permit to be pulled and inspected after the installation, that they know what they are talking about.

I was floored as I had leaned otherwise here on the Firewood Hoarders Club.

I believe a standard code would really help. Especially with insulation and moisture control.

All townships are different, call the township and your insurance before proceeding.

It would help with everything, in lancaster city I can't make changes to plumbing suppy lines before the appliance shutoff and can't make changes to waste lines before the trail piece or flange because I'm not a master plumber .25 miles away they have no rules at all and no inspections, BS.

some of it goes a little too far, but generally speaking, most people just don't know enough about plumbing (or any kind of construction) to be doing that kind of repairs.
