Replaced the old insert with a new Buck 94 in October. All the cold starts and small fires it was hard to keep the glass clean, but now the temps are in the mid 20's with a steady wind. Got her rollin good now, nice and clean and man this thing cranks out the heat, very happy with it so far.
That's the brother to my 91 but non cat.....I looked at those when I bought mine in 2013 but wanted a cat stove. Also I was a little concerned because there was a few bad reviews I found online but knowing how good Buck has been to deal with probably operator error or something other than the stove. Keep us informed this winter on how you like it. Initial comment sounds like you are pretty darn happy. FWIW my glass is hard to keep clean on low slow burns
At the moment I'm having digital picture technology difficulties I'll post em when I get that issue resolved.
How do you like that hog i considered it for awhile. But it seemed the useable firebox size was much smaller than marketed. Im still imbetween it and a bk princess down the road
I like it just fine, I think the Princess will give a little longer burn by the comments I see. I actually considered both of those myself before pulling the trigger on the Buck. I liked the looks of the Buck better I guess. You are right on with the firebox size thing, I believe they measure with the cat shield out. I will say though when I see pictures of the Princess loaded I think I would likely burn more wood overall with the Princess. I generally load 5 splits straight in, 3 on the bottom and 2 on top.....good for 8-10 hrs of heat, and have plenty of coals to reload.
I have a new Buck 74 and its finally been cold enough here to open it up. I also looked at the 94 but i didnt have enough room for it in my opening. I have an insert. Im still learning mine but im getting about 6-7 hours of good heat on a load. My dad had a buck 27000(??) When i was growing up and eventually replaced it with a gas insert. That thing was a monster and it was still working when we took it out. Thats the reason I went with Buck. Tried and true. I love mine.
I replaced a Buck 27000 with a New Buck 91... with the 27000 the wife had to get up a few times per night to keep it going. the Buck 91 I load 5 splits at 9:30 and when I get up at 5:15 its still going strong enough to add more, Brush my teeth, start the truck then come in and shut it down till I get home at 3:00 ish, then do it all again... Hmnnn I guess I load it 3 times per day
Managed to upload a few pics of the 94 easing along on a small evening load of 1 hickory & 1 chestnut oak split 25 outside temp toasty 74 in here.
Thanks .The pewter on black fits in well with the Fire Queens primitive decor in the room, yes hooked to an 8" SS liner. By the way I like the new avatar.
