Brought home a new toy

Today I bit the bullet and decided to buy a Husqvarna 550xp. I've been tossing around the idea of purchasing one for a while. I've been in need of a small lightweight saw. While falling, we stack all the smaller branches in piles throughout the woods for later processing. So pretty much anything from 3"-5" goes into these piles.

You will love this new 550xp of yours, i bought one last summer. Looks like you got a 16 inch bar on it, great setup for hardwood cutting. Dont be afraid to tackle trees that are up to 20 inch diameter with that 550xp it will do better than you might think, congrats nice saw.

 

I hope so! I'm just a little concerned about the AT. I've never owned an AT saw. I like to be able to adjust my carb. I've heard good an bad things about it.

Yes I got it with a 16" b/c. My dealer usually sells them with 18's but I wanted the 16". I dropped it in couple white oak blocks tonight after I fueled it. Seems to have a decent amount of power for a 50cc rig. She'll only get better after 7-8 tanks of fuel!

 

Congrats ! I think the 16" bar is perfect for that saw ! Both for balance and power output.
I've had the 545 and 550xp. Both great runners !
But what the 550xp did that the 545 couldn't do .....was SCREEEAM !!!!!

Give it a mm... my favorite saw to run so far. Can cut all day withour feeling spent . Cut 95% of all my firewood with mine

 

Great saw!!! I bought one a few years ago as my only firewood saw with an 18" bar. Now that I have something larger, the 550 has a 13" bar and a 8 pin sprocket. It's a screamer!!! I find a 13" bar still allows me to get through 70% of my cutting before the Dolkita gets to play.

Don't worry about the auto tune. Sometimes if there's a major temp change between the last time I fired it up it'll hiccup for several seconds after first starting, but it finds it's legs pretty quick.

Oh yeah, and open up that muffler!

Edit: I also fabbed up a piece of metal that bolts inside the wrap handle on the bottom of the saw and sticks out about as far as the clutch cover. I got tired of the darned saw tipping over every time I set it down!

 

Mine runs like a turd for about 20 seconds if its just flat out cold outside. I have learned on the firsr start to just let it sit and idle for a bit longer before ripping into it.

 

It's getting a MM this week. All my saws are MM. Inexpensive power gains and I like noise!

Well I put the 550 to the test today. Went up to the wood lot to get some more logs out for a couple orders. I'm partial to my 372, but I wanted to test the 550. Well I fell all but one tree with her today. I will say, for a 50cc rig, it does a hell of a job. Such a great limber too! Here's a couple pics from what I skidded out today. About half of the pile.

There's about 10-11 face cord there.
