Actually it is a 400 gallon buffer tank that my boiler heats. Boiler system hot water storage. That would be a lot of beer. Wouldn't it?
Time to line up the new recruits for the next job. A mix of Ash and a little Maple this time. The colder temps will be here for the next three nights. Pine in the back row, and criss-crossed. Ash in front. And Pine in this stack.
The bins on the left hold about a days worth each. The wagon holds more. Some pine, the rest came out of one of my mixed bins and I'm honestly not sure at this point what I've got. A lot of it is either elm or sweet gum- I can tell because I cut it short to make it easier to split. Looks like a bit of cherry. I guess the bottom line is its firewood.
I have been keeping a stack to dry next to my stove for months now. I rotate it out almost everyday. The wood rack to the left is what is ready to burn. I bought 3 cords of not quite seasoned ash and maple in August for a killer deal of 200 bucks for it all. That day or 2 by the stove seems to make a difference. It only gets around 150F on the side.
I would love to hear and see more about your heating set up. It sounds like you have a pretty neat/ efficient system.
Called a buffer tank. 400 gallons of hot water storage. Add that to the 60 gallons in the boiler and you get a longer heating time before the boiler has to cycle back on and heat up again. It seems to help. I wish I had the room for more storage. But the system is working well and I’m not going to mess with it. Some guys have as much as 2,000 gallons of storage. And, depending on how well insulated their home is, the size of heating space, and outside temperatures. They can burn the boiler flat out for 3-4 hours or however long it takes to heat up super insulated storage. Then they might go 1-2-3 days without a fire. Just coasting on hot water storage. The boiler is most efficient when burning flat out and not being idle. Burn flat out until all water storage is at 190.
Could this kind of storage work with an owb as well? Say if a person was to add an additional 400 gallons in the the basement in the loop that goes between the house & stove. The stove already holds 390 gallons or so. Just wondering what your ideas would be on that based on your experience.
Yes. It could be. I think it would help. But, I must say I am no expert. That is certain. If you wanted to see a big difference you would need more storage than that.
