Most people use too much anyway.....this is from a post I made a few days ago on that very subject:

"In regards to your comment about the detergent, I actually spoke to a tech for Whirlpool after getting the new one last year....had a question only they could answer. But basically, he told me about a repair class he attended, and they were told that consumers are using WAY too much detergent.....there is a lot of it still left in the clothes after washing.

He said they actually washed a load of dirty clothes without ANY detergent added, and they came out just as clean as with detergent. So I asked him how much to actually use.....he said at least 1/2 or less of what you normally use
    ."

5* now - coldest temp already this season. They say the low is supposed to be about 0* - I'll be happy with that but not holding my breath.

Turned the main floor stove from room temp auto (on thermostat at 71 with a 1* swing) to Constant / Auto with feed set at 1, "temp" set at 1 and fan at the high setting. Need that fan to stay on high to get the heat back to the bedroom, but with a smallish main floor, don't need it on Room/manual and keeping it at "temp" of 5+ to keep the fan going.

This is an experiment for me, but already seems to be working well. When I got home (room temp set of thermostat at 71*), the stove was going full bore and the LR was at 80+*. The room the thermostat is in was at 70 and the bedroom at 67. Since I changed settings the LR is at 77, the room with the thermostat at 72 and the bedroom at 70. Hopefully that will stay thru the night. Before I leave for work in the morning, I'll change it back to room temp / auto since it is supposed to be sunny and in the 20's. Being the 1st year with the P43 on the main floor, it will be a bit of trial and error until I get the combo right for the cold temps.

The basement stove is still on room temp / auto and with the small improvements I made since last season seems to be okay that way so far. When we get to sustained cold temps, I may have to change it - we'll see. Of course at only 650 sq/ft, one would hope it stays good, but the concrete floor still sucks up quite a bit of cold from the ground. I've just been lucky so far and the ground temp, although chilly, is still above freezing (as evinced by the mud under the snow while I was shoveling the other day).

I go thru a large jug, 315 oz, of detergent in about a year. Sure, I'm just one person, but I do at least 3 loads a week and those things say that it is worth 210 loads. I just let it "glub" one time thru the spout, and call it good.

No depends just yet anyway. But for anyone who does, it is much better than wet pants. Have had to learn how to schedule my diuretic (water pill).
Yes, another b-day, but the good thing is that I'm not ashes in wind.

    Just read this article and Cleanfire's washing machine came to mind, not the same state of mind;

A New Year's Eve fight ended in a quadruple killing when a man killed his wife and two others, before his son fatally shot him. The victims were the son's 48-year-old girlfriend, who also lived at the property in Rowlands Height, California, as well as a 27-year-old man who was visiting.

"We're still trying to corroborate the versions of events that occurred and what we're being told occurred," sheriff's lieutenant John Corina said. "It looks like it was a dispute between the dad and the son's girlfriend, probably over using the washing machine. For some reason, this set the dad off."

The 54-year-old father was a heavy drinker with a large gun collection, according to authorities. The mother and brother of the 27-year-old who was killed told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune his name was Ernesto Calzadilla and that he had an eight-month-old daughter.

Maria Cruz confirmed that her son, Ernesto Calzadilla was among the dead. She did not know the family, but her son had socialised with them.

"He would always come around and hang around here because they were really nice to him," Cruz said. "I think the dad had some issues, mental issues."

A neighbour said the family was known for partying. "It looks like they drink heavily every day," Corina said.

Christopher Morey, the 33-year-old son managed to wrestle the semi-automatic pistol away from his father and shot him. Morey is being held on suspicion of murder and on $1m bail, authorities said anNBC report.

According to a police official, Morey and his girlfriend were staying at the Rowland Heights house to look after the 54-year-old mother, who had recently suffered a stroke. "They had been taking care of her," Corina said. "She was in a hospital bed there in the middle of the living room."

We have hard water also. I think it tested 5.8 by the Callaghan man. I was getting leaks in the copper pipes. Tore all those out and went pex. then a whole new heating system. Didn't want to have that eaten up by hard water so I had a water treatment thing put in for about $1400. not salt. Some other stuff we mix up in a bucket that is siphoned off. We replace all the pipes. Don't want more issues with hard water.

Sadly we can only run on the 1 setting on the Whits when running the shells.

Sort of like burning kindling, the stuff burns hot (real hot) and the calibration on the feed settings is just way wrong for all but the 1 setting

The suckers will melt on anything over 2

My new controllers give me far more adjustment control and different times per setting.

The Prodigy is 10 seconds off on the 1 setting but then jumps to 5 seconds on the 2 setting

This is just way too fast.

My new controller is 10 on low, 8 on medium and 7 on high.

I also have easier adjustment of the feed on time too, and can easily tweak it up or down to get life in the sweet spot.

Same thing with the ADV 2 T
1 is 7 seconds off time then 2 is 5 seconds off time 3-4 and 5 are waaaaay too fast.

The new controller for the ADV2 T is 7.5 seconds on low 7 on medium and 6 on high.

Same thing with the on time, easily tweaked up or down to get the sweet spot

I also have a fully adjustable convection fan on the Prodigy (Now the fan runs a pre set speed for each heat setting)
I can tweak the fan speed, as this also has a shunt tube into the fire pot to help combustion.

A little more fan and the fire burns better.

    IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTROL :D

YA GOTTA HAVE CONTROL, LOTSA CONTROL.

Snowy, I don't have any idea what the Whit's run, but would an auger motor that runs less rpm's help? If they already have 1 rpm motors, forget I posted this. LOL

We run vinegar in the washer and dishwasher also. We have run affresh type products for both also. We even made our own laundry soap until I saw the soap pooled in the bottom of the septic tank when it got pumped out last time. The best thing we've done was get away from your typical water softener. I've switched over to the saltless water softeners. The expense of a water softener, with the yearly replacement of the motherboard ( due to inexplicable corrosion) and the cost of the salt, and the potential harm to the leach field made it worthy of a trial period. It works.... kind of. It doesn't remove the minerals it just takes the charge out of them. I still have to clean all of the faucet filters/screen and orifices every few months and the water heater. It is a royal PITA! It has mitigated the hardness level.

The LG warranty was dependent on NOT using normal soap. The high water pressure and the foaming soap caused the soap to blow into the inners of the machine. It caused havoc; and having only happened a few times, the corrosive nature of the soap was amazing to me. So we continue to avoid using soaps that cause foaming. This washer is 11 years old and still going strong. I'm not sure how long your three machines lasted, but we found a way to keep ours happy.

    Yup 1 RPM IT IS

The issue is just related to the alternative fuel we use.

On pellets the calibration is perfect.

We have run with the factory controls now since 09 on the Whits and it works, just like to make it better is all.

I would imagine that the folks that burn pits, corn and other biomass stuff deal with similar issues.

Maybe Chicken man will chime in, as they use pits down there
