I have been doing this for a few years. If you like the outdoors and finding out a lot about local history and parks you might not otherwise visit, you should check it out. Just like a modern day scavenger hunt, using satelites. Geocaching
I do something like this on motorcycles, we call it the tag game, or tag-o-rama. Duplicate an existing pic posted previously with your bike in t he pic. Move somewhere else to take a pic and post. Someon re else then moves the tag.... goes on forever.
That's exactly how I got into the Geocaching thing! Same purpose and challenge, just using different tools so to speak. Most of the bike stuff required me to have a very intimate knowledge of a particular area and did not allow me to play in different states when not riding. Yep that is a bike caliper.
That caliper is off a very low mileage 2005 Yamaha Vstar Silverado. This is me with that bike, wearing an honor shirt for my late best friend who was a NESBA VP and Control Rider, Mike Moore #353. Wish I was half the rider he was....
Yes, that is the game. quite fun. the link in my post shows the elementary process if you scroll down past the first 1/4 of the page. you can use a car garmin for the game. You can click on the 'Play' link, enter your zip code, then click 'map this' to get an idea of where you want to search. There are some pretty cool pursuits there, in that I have found 'prizes' with a planned destination to other states or greatest mileage. Cool to see something like a rubber key chain move from one continent to another.
I've come across people doing it. Kinda awkward when you roll up on someone looking for something in your fencerow.
Years ago, like 20 or more, there was a fella in a National BMW riders club (BMWMOA) that invented a RAT run (Road Anomalies Tour), at least I think he was the first to call it that. I think there are a bunch of groups that have RAT runs now. The idea is to ride your bike to any odd roadside attraction, sign, etc and take a picture of it with your bike in the picture. His website is long gone, and was never really that good as this was pre mainstream cell phone or even digital camera. Tons of fun, there are some truly unique places in this great country, with some equally unique characters behind them. Similar idea to geocaching.
