You ever been looking at random chainsaw videos, and come across something like this?

I watched it and thought, richen up the H and you'll probably be good to go. Nope, let us rant and make a video. Thoughts?

The funny thing is that the overwhelming majority of non-professional chainsaw users wouldn't have any idea what you were talking about if you told them to "richen up the H" (although I'm not convinced that's the issue with his saw ;)). I always struggle with that; sometimes I feel like people should be able to deal with the equipment they're operating, but on the the other hand the overwhelming majority of people who drive a car every day don't know how to do the most basic of maintenance...

Regardless of this guy's mechanical aptitude I would have to strongly agree that posting a damm video of yourself using a dud chainsaw on youtube solves exactly nothing.

I do love all of the random chainsaw videos. My favorites are the ones showing how to sharpen chains and they inevitably run the file both directions on the same tooth like they're using a handsaw...

I'm all for informative videos. I don't think the one I mentioned qualifies.

I have a little Husky 240 that had a bog /lean out that developed after running it for some time (most noticeable when really cold), and always at half a tank of fuel. I didn't know chainsaws from a hole in the ground. I didn't make a video complaining about a crappy saw, I learned how to tune a saw. It's been a sweet machine ever since.

I did not make a video complaining my saw was junk though. It's a machine, no voodoo or magic required. You just need to trouble shoot.

I might add Nixon, I'm not bagging on you here, just that a guy might want to at least try to troubleshoot before condemning a brand.

It's more than just a H adjustment. Remember, it ran just fine stone cold. Something changes as the motor warms up. It could be as simple as a bad tank vent or as involved as chasing a "hot leak" at the crank seals, cylinder base/crank pan, or intake boot, carb gasket or I have witnessed the impulse lines popping off it's nipple on the crankcase. The latter is most likely the case. (Some sort of impulse trouble) The carb loads up ok when the choke is closed but once the fuel in the diaphragm chamber is exhausted, that's all folks.

Yup, condemning a brand based on one unit's troubles is pretty silly but most still expect anything brand-new to be completely trouble free. It seems that he gave his dealer at least one shot at getting it fixed, shame on them for poor troubleshooting/testing. The video itself demonstrating the problem is A-OK in my book, but the guys attitude is what will keep him from getting things solved IMO.

Besides, Everybody knows if you really need to solve life's problems, you should post them on Facebook. Sheesh. :picard:

And it very well could be a different problem. I experienced this same problem with my own saw (mentioned in another post) so that's the first place I would look. You can create this problem at will (again, with my saw) when you drain almost all the fuel out, and run it dry for storage. Give 'er a blip and she bogs.

You better watch who you call a professional.:D

Whoa! I just went to youtube and read all of the 'helpful' comments that follow below this guy's video. You all should definitely do that if you have a few extra minutes . . . thoroughly entertaining!

That's why I do not blame anybody posting a technical video on YouTube for disabling comments. I get some good ones on my stuff on occasion. I love the ones that say I'm a moron for not doing X or wearing Y and I should have done Z and I'd be smart like them.

This another entertaining aspect of YouTube. A 10 minute vid explaining how the anti-backfire solenoid caused the crankcase to self-ventilate on a single-cylinder OHV Briggs.

This video may answer the first one.

But I have to go find a funny stove video I watched awhile back. It's a gooder.

    And here it is.

In my limited experience, a bog that runs but barely is fuel rich. A bog that dies is fuel starved.

I had a Rupp rally that came stock with 320 mains. Ran like chit. Snap the throttle open and it would bog and make a BLOOOOOOH sound. Saw will do the same thing if the choke is left on or H is cranked way up. Dropped in 270s and it hauled azz.

I like the temps he's giving as well. Not even 300 F on the sides of the stove.....not even 120 F two feet up the stove pipe. Honest as the day is long I'd say.:loco:

Like my saw; which I am so happy to have. I think I may have mixed the fuel wrong. My friend mixed new fuel and the saw ran great.

If the guy bought the 3 cans-o-fuel with saw, he should get 4 years of warranty. I'm certainly not an authority, by any means, but I'd think he has a good reason to expect that the warranty would cover it. Just take the saw back until it's fixed or replaced. Once it's fixed, the 455 is a decent running saw, at least as far as I'm concerned, but then again I am somewhat biased.:p
