Really gets the loading height down to a nice level.... Doubles as home heating fuel too! Man this Shagbark is heavy stuff! I can see the water running out of the ends of each round. Did a little cutting this morning, dropped several trees including a good sized oak with the 1050. It's been awhile so it felt good to get out in the cool air and play!
It's a dream cut for sure. Went in, cut half a dozen trees down, cherry picked the wood I wanted, (and I can go back for more!) and don't have to pick up the brush! We are clearing for a new clubhouse septic field, the trees (some were beautiful) had to go and they will be bull dozing the stumps out anyways.
Great score MM A lot a nice wood your gittin there gonna make some nice :stacke::stacke::stacke::stacke:
I tried that with my Dodge, got 4000 lbs pellets in and it still rode high in the back. ran out of room for more
Not a paying job this time. Beech behind me? In the photo I have my foot on a black cherry, a red oak laying off in the background and the scraggly looking thing still standing in the background is some sort of ornamental that looks alright in the warmer seasons but I think it's fugly now. The whole course has a bunch of Shagbark, oak, and various maples, mostly reds and silver. The previous owner was a fan of planting evergreens for some reason, especially white pines. They just don't look right in most areas of the course. Some groups of them died off completely, others were horribly mutilated by the utility company as we have a set of transmission lines that run near the course. And the rest just look out of place. There will be 3 red maples, an oak tree and then like 1 white pine in a row or grouping. Most of the black cherry trees have died off or sustained major damage as they were very mature and carpenter ants have had their way with them. Most are quite hollow. In fact, the one I'm standing on in the photo had maybe 3-4" of wood around the outside at breast height and the center was just dust. Makes for some interesting felling at times. I have cut a fair amount of cherry off this place and most of it was quite large for cherry. They get 24"+ out in the open.
I see the stump now. That view of the bark (looks smooth) along with having a bunch of the leaves still on…. Beech came to mind. Either way, nice haul, especially with no clean up!
I get to keep what I want for the most part. I really only need about 3 more cord to ensure that I'm still 3+ years ahead by the time spring rolls around. I have quite a bit of wood here at home still that needs stacking. Once I get it stacked, I will assess my available space and see how much I can hold. One nice thing is that there is always wood to cut there, even if it's not on the course. There is some wooded ground that usually will provide a steady supply of Silver Maple. There are a couple other guys there that burn as well so the extra wood is certainly not wasted!
