My Heat pump did not work this christmas since we needed it in the crazy heat we had!!! Anyway I isolated the problem to the blower motor is not coming on. I tore into it and thought to myself ...I dont know how to test a motor with like 7 wires!!! Anyway I tried to turning on with the cover off..no motor, when I pushed the squirrel cage wheel it started up. It seemed slower but ran and kept the evap coil from freezing. And cooled the house . The next day it would not come back on. But the day I yore into it and got it going it would cut off and on and come back on.( I took it out of the housing and lubed the shaft as best I could but know bearings are sealed most likely anyway. ) This thing acts like any other burned out electric motor I have messed with in that it will run if push started but once it cools it won't restart. The real question is seeing as this thing has a capacitor on the housing could that be bad and not giving it some boost in starting voltage or am I good in assuming from what I see just the motor is gone? This is a goodman package unit at mpg house. J can give model numbers if that would help in a diagnosis. I am pretty handy but opening this thing I was like wow look at the electronics!
Sounds like a bad capacitor i had the same problem with mine sometimes it would start with a push start with a stick but it would not spin very fast and then it eventually quit all together. Put a new capacitor on and all was good then started right up and spun fast. Also check for corroded connections. But im almost positive its the capacitor because mine had the same issues before I replaced it
Thanks. Capacitor is cheaper I'm sure and this unit does not have that many hours on it cause before my son. Last two years it was set really high in summer and winter with wood heat was rarely used. There is a lot of corossion in the inside like on housing and stuff but the actual wires look good under boots and things. I will try and find the correct part number in the parts manual and order a capacitor and go from there.
Definitely sounds like a start capacitor. Similar thing happened on my old oil furnace blower when I first bought this house. If you have a Grainger near you, they may have one in stock. Those are pretty common parts.
I ordered one off ebay with the part number for my model from a parts manual. I figured for $7 shipped to my house I am not hurting anything.
Ok my capacitor came in yesterday. I had a chance to work on it today. Swap capacitor. 5minute job. Swap breakers on to try and see if it works. No power to t stat :-( it did this the other night I just f looked the breaker a few times. Couldnt get it to power up the electronics. The big breaker for compressor was good the small one just wasnt. Get power meter out see what has power where. I confirm no power on the unit side of breaker. Now j have to drive the one hour round trip to town. I do a few other things to get the old k10 ready to go to town, since I wanted to run it through the robowash. Had to tighten a wheel well trim so it did not get ripped off. Had to cut the old bolt off and replace. Did all that. Got new breaker at lowes for $17 drove home and SUCESS!! Total cost was capacitor was $7 and the breaker was $17! But its back up and ready. Hopefully I won't need it at all till AC season in sometime from april-june. As the wood stove provides our heat. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. The old one was slightly swollen and I could not hear the oil in it if I shook it.
