    As with life.

All good things come to an end.

The huge corporate gobble up the small companies, glean any good ideas they can and then dump the brand in the toilet and move on.

Sad, but that's the way it works.

I would love to see a company come out with a new stove that is as far away from the high tech as possible.

Get back to basic controls that are robust and trouble free.

The new generation stoves have run headlong into the "Gotta have a computer" trap.

The original Whitfields had simple timers that were tough as nails and just run and run and run and run.

No blinky codes or other high tech goodies.

The stove, after all, is a device that sits in the corner and makes the room warm.

No need for fancy gadgets. Fire is simple, the stove needs to be also.

A simple nice looking stove that works good and lasts a long time would sell like hotcakes.

    Imagine that.

Sure would be great. I have a Breckwell P24i with no light flashing no bells or whistles.
Bought in 1995 and still going strong, with a few blower changes.
    Good Luck

    The technocraze has grabbed everything.

Everything imaginable has a touch screen on it now.

Saw a toilet in the home store that had a computerized water saving thing on it the other day.

    This is just plain wrong.

Simple things need to remain so.

The more complex it gets, the easier it fails.

The old 55 gallon barrel stove never failed to keep the cabin warm.

It is now installed and running great. I helped him bring in 10 bags of pellets. Took about 10 minutes. Way easier than hauling firewood for his wood stove. I will grab a few pictures of the install.

Here is an installed picture. These stoves put out some incredible heat. I am concerned with the control board. Never know when it is gonna quit. I have most of the parts and timers needed to wire up a controller. ( thanks to Snowy's diagram). He loves it !!! image.jpg

Sounds right. I've seen a few Lennox stoves and they certainly seem to be pretty good. but they don't set any sales records.

Sales are what drives things, but sadly the sales numbers do not always reflect the real story

Whitfield stayed with a tried and true design that worked well.

So many manufacturers were quick to offer all sorts of nice looking stoves with all manner of "trick"upgrades that in many cases just never made the grade.

Buyers tend to look at stoves like they look at cars, they want to see a new face on the thing every year.

This is a stove people, it keeps the house warm.

There is such a thing as timeless beauty, and the old Whits had it.

Function and reliability is job one, then comes fashion.

If I could buy a brand spanky new Whitfield today, I would.

I have a very lovely Advantage 2 T "spare" now sitting in the basement, and am looking for a Spare Prodigy 2

There is not the same attitude out there today as there was in the days of the original Whitfields.

Now it seems to be all about getting as many electronic gizmos on board as they can.

A design that evolves and becomes a solid dependable unit is where its at.
