Replacing my big saw with a 28" version of either a 576XP or a 390XP. Anyone have any experience with either or thoughts on the matter?
I had a 576 auto tune that was a super smooth saw that run pretty good.I have also used a 390 a lot working for a tree company and my pick would definitely be the 390 for a 28" bar.
576's are heavy turds. They are high revving, just the torque isn't there like I thought it would be. But I do agree with Birddogtg, they are a smooth smooth cutting machine! I bought one new in June, non AT, and just took a loss on selling it. My 372 cuts way better and is lighter. I'd personally go with a 390 if those are your two choices.
I had a 576xpat.. smooth as all get out. I felt the saw leaned more on the torque side vs high rev. I consider my 550 and 562 high rev feeling. Thr 576xp seemed slow compared to them. But i could lead on it plenty. Didnt cut a whole lot with it honestly. But i would take the tad extra weight and go 390xp. Or go 461 or the mentioned 7910 as i have read great stuff
Had a few of both. 28" bar max I'd probably stick with the 390. Not much weight difference in them empty. 390 will be heavier loaded as it holds more fluids. The 576AT I had was faster than it sounded. With a stop watch it was faster than my 372 and close to the 288. 390 isn't much faster either. 7910 will probably be as cheap as the 576 with power about close to the 390.

Both. I've had 8 or 9 385/390 and 6 or 7 372s and each version on a 576. Stock Ported they were all very close.
Given the choices presented ,I'd go with the 390xp . I will , however , recommend that you at least look at the 7910 as was brought up in a couple of posts . I just converted a 6400 to a 7910 . For a stock saw ( gutted muffler ) ,it's got a lot of grunt . It'll be ported next month . It'll be interesting to see how it compares to my ported 390 .
I've heard he does pretty good art work on saws too........ I like my 576AT more than the 460. The smoothness makes it a pleasure to work with....
