Hauled a few logs this afternoon. There are a couple soft maple and the rest is ash. Here is one load ready to haul out. This is the root ball off the ash. You can see where it rotted below ground level. This is happening to a lot of our ash trees. I took a short walk near where this tree was down and was amazed. I thought there were only 2 or 3 more trees left in this area. Wrong! There are many. Some down and some still standing. Lots of work to do. The bad part is that there is a lot of prickly ash in the area so it is tough getting around with either machine or on foot. It get really thick.
Still hauling ash. Its all down & rotting here. Scary to walk in the woods with all the widow makers.
That's great, Dennis! Good splitting, fast drying BTU's you got there. Happy to know you're getting more and more done!!
Dennis, Is your ground frozen? Ours just froze up the last 3 days. Frost now is down about 3-4 inches. Most lakes and ponds now have a layer of ice. Frozen ground and no snow great time to get logs out of the woods. Perfect. Great job
He uses a sled built from 4x4s and 2x4s, angled on the front to make it easier to pull. Works pretty well, if you zoom in on his picture below you can see it. Nice part is it keeps the logs off the ground so the bark doesn't fill with rocks and dirt
Nice Haul there Backwoods Savage ... But how do you grow trees so square like? . I knew you where talented, but this just puts another notch in the ol' belt. Welcome to FHC Hoosierhick ... 13 months and your first post, why are you holding out on us? ... We dont bite...
Good job, Mr. Savage, sir! Most of the EAB - killed ash trees around here had that same rotted out root ball after they became skeletons for awhile. That dray gadget looks real handy....
