Jred85 , Would you like me to move this to the wood stove section? Won't get much chatter in pellet land.
Good morning all, I hope I am not hijacking here. I have a wood furnace too, and I love it. Something odd happened this morning and I want to run it by the group. Stove was cold this morning, started it per the normal protocol. Once it was going, i grabbed a few larger chunks of Maple and when I threw the first in i hit one piece and it sparked heavily...no big deal it happens. For some odd reason I looked into the end of the barometric damper and some of the creosote on the Tee going to the damper was smoldering and red. No flames, just smolder. I closed up the stove and hit it with a water spray for piece of mind. I also pulled the cleanout very quickly and it looked fine. I plan to run a brush up the stainless this weekend. This oddball weather pattern where I am having a lot of starts and stops is causing a little buildup, but nothing horrible. Just wanted to see if others have seen the buildup smoldering.
Glad to see you got the furnace up and running Jred85. Now get out there and make them wood stacks grow some more
Congrats Jred85 ! Remember that old advice Swags gave you to get wood ready for next year. Dry wood is where it is at man!!!!! C/S/S outside up on pallets for as long as a year works best. Longer for Oaks and some other dense woods.
Baros are known for creosoting up due to pulling in cool air which of course cools the whole stack and then we know what happens further up the stack. I know its the standard way to smooth out the draft and somewhat extend burn time- There are better ways but they get a bit pricy.
I have most of 16/17 wood cut and split, with the plan for the next two weeks to get the log pile cut down also. I keep the damper trimmed down pretty tight now, just to get the hear up the 40 ft of chimney. Luckily the pipe runs up through the middle of the house, so there is not a huge amount of heat transfer.
